JR Smith is a good shooter, but he is streaky. He might be more athletic than Kobe, but there is more to being an elite basketball player than athleticism. The D-League is filled with guys with phenomenal athleticism, but without the game to match. People pay way too much attention to how high a guy can jump or how well he can dunk. The problem with JR Smith is that he doesn't have the mentality or work ethic to be a top player. He has a ton of potential, but he has the basketball IQ of a 3 year old. That is the biggest discrepancy between him and Kobe. In contrast, look at a guy like Stephen Curry, who may not have incredible athleticism, but has star written all over him due in large part to his off the charts basketball IQ.

he has talent. everyone competing at the cup level has talent.
is he on par with tony stewart and jeff gordon? personally, i dont think so. i wouldnt consider him among the sport's "elite" drivers. but i guess we'll find out when he gets in a hendrick car. he wont have any excuses.

You can love your job and still not enjoy who you work for. Jr was not happy working for the wicked stepmother, and it showed in his work. Now that there is light at the end of the tunnel, he can drive the wheels off the car because everyone will know that it is his talent and not the equipment that gets him those top 5's and top 10's.
He was wasting his talent at DEI and everyone knew it. Even his father. That why he left the company to Teresa. He knew Jr would never stay there with her running the company. His father wanted him to be his own man.
HMS and JR Motorsports rule!

Amen to that. The only people who bash Junior just do it out of immaturity. If he wasn't talented, he wouldn't have won two consecutive Busch championships. His only problems this season have been to to getting caught up in wrecks caused by someone else, and engine failure.
And yes... it was a great win for Tony!

Damn right he got talent! Junior is a great driver and will start piling up those wins when he gets to Hendrick! But I am not with you about Tony winning. I hate Tony Stewart!

He's always had talent; how else would he have two Busch series championships? Since his dad died and DEI unofficially became TEI, he hasn't been racing at his prime. With the switch to Hendrick, he'll have better luck, and we'll see a lot more of his talent. And way to go, Smoke!

Ignore the haters. Jr. is a great racer, we all know it. Some people just can't get over that fact. Too bad he had problems there at the end; I thought we were going to see a Jr. win today.
Well, it was still awesome that Tony one his second win of the season at home.

The only thing that matters is who goes across the Finish line first. Leading laps doesn't make you a great driver. And I agree all you hear about is Jr.'s equipment. What happens next year when he still doesn't win? What's left to blame?
