You are gonna get hamered on YA for using the term "Teacup"!!!
Teacup is a term used when referring to smaller than normal dogs... or puppies. They say its a term most commonly used by BYB (back yard breeders) to try and sell you an unusually small dog for a large amount of money.
There is no organization that recognizes a Teacup chihuahua.
However if you are looking for a small chihuahua there are many reputable breeders out there that breed small chi's. Not BYB! They can be very expensive tho. Approx. 200 to 1000.
The AKC breed standard for a chi is no more than 6lbs. AKC does not give dimernsions for height and length.

Here is the AKC/Chihuahua website-
http://www.akc.org/breeds/chihuahua/index.cfm
Piece from above site:
It is assumed that the small size of the modern Chihuahua results from a cross of the Techichi with the small hairless dog brought from Asia to Alaska over the land bridge that is now the Bering Strait.

You can also go to your local animal resure or shelter and find a chi there. They will run you alot less!

Good Luck... and I tried to answer your question and inform you without being mean! Because you most likely weren't aware of the facts. That is not your fault!!!!
I'm sure you will run on to folks that aren't as nice.. just move on!!!!
I get hammered all the time because I raise miniature austrailian shepherds. People say there are not such thing. When in fact there are two organizations... which just merged...NAMASCUSA and MASCA- they do not have a "merged" name yet. But I just have to choose who I listen to and take advice from!

Again good luck!!!!

There's no such thing as "teacup". It's a fancy name put on extra tiny dogs so that the irresponsible breeder that sells them with this designer name can make a few extra hundred dollars. Chihuahuas, by the AKC breed standard, is not supposed to exceed 6 pounds. Everything under 6 pounds is acceptable for the Chihuahua breed. That means, even a 3 pound Chihuahua is within breed standards and is NOT a "teacup". In my opinion, these little dogs are way overpriced by backyard breeders because people that don't do research think they're getting a special dog because it's so much smaller than others when in fact they're usually the runts of the litter or produced from small parents. People who don't know any better buy these tiny, tiny dogs from irresponsible breeders that can have extra health problems and are very fragile. Please do your research and read up on having a small dog. A 3 pound dog is VERY small and they do need some extra care. Make sure you're really committed to the time and care needed for extra small dogs.

There is no such thing as a "Teacup" Chihuahua. The standard for a Chihuahua is up to 6lbs.

By adding the word "Teacup" prices will double. If you look at the AKC webpage you will see 2 types of Chihuahua. Long coat and short coat. No teacups, mini's or toys. ALL Chihuahua's are toys. I have 4 ranging from just over 3lbs to 9. They are all very small. I paid from $600-$1,200 for mine. The $1,200 is show quality. They all came from the same breeder. Where I live in Canada if you get them from a pet store the price is $2,000 and up. Depending where you live I know people who have paid as little as $200.

Wow! Some really unintelligent people responding. There is no such thing as a "teacup" anything.

The only reason to breed a dog is for the betterment of the breed.

Why would someone breed runt to runt to produce an ill bred, unhealthy not up to standard dog? Oh, I got the answer ... MONEY? And uninformed people (I am trying so hard not to use the word STUPID, oops but I just did) are buying them. UGH!!!!!!!

If anyone is advertising a "teacup" anything you better put on your running shoes.

A friend's tiny chihuahua (I think she's a teacup) is now 5 pounds, is about 11" long and maybe 7" high at the top of her head. I don't know what she paid for her. This one was supposed to be about 3 to 5 pounds full grown, so she's big.

There is no such thing.

The runts are often sold as "teacup" to people who don't know any better and are willing to pay a higher price for them. These dogs often have health problems due to their very small size.

If someone is trying to sell you a teacup anything, run far an fast.

A "teacup" chi is just a fancy name for a breeder trying to rip you off. It's just a small chi. And the size varies according to the bloodline (as does the price).

small. they will be small forever, and you have to keep a really good eye on them, my best friend had one, it broke it's leg, they set it, she broke it again, and they put her down within 3 months. Don't let them jump off anything, they are delicate. they might weight, max, 8 pounds, probably more like 5, not too sure.
