As you know stomach digestion is based on acid chemicals to do the process. All the food that you mention are high starch content. The acids combined with this basics as Chemical components, make a neutral solution to heal the "pain".

Of course you get potassium from bananas, so that helps your immune system. I don't know what the rice and applesauce do, but they do have some food value as well. However, the toast (without butter), gives you fiber and helps you get back on the mend. The reason to omit the butter is to keep from consuming any fat. A couple more suggestion for stomach illness are- peppermint and ginger ale.

The other option is the "all white diet" - you can eat cream of wheat, cream of rice, white rice and white bread and/or plain mash potatoes, but no milk - just white starchy foods to calm your stomach down b/c they have no tough fiber in them.

Actually some doctors add tea and call it the BRAT-T diet.

its easy to digest.Also its easy on the stomach!
