Yes you can go from National Guard to Active Duty. It is up to your unit to release you. Just go to the closest Army Recruiting station and tell them you want to go active. They will give you two forms to take to your unit for signatures. There is a 6 month waiting period from the time you report to your NG unit until the time you can go active. (It has to be a Regular Army Recruiting Station - not National Guard Rec. Station) If you haven't gone to basic yet and you know you want to go Active - just don't ship to basic and then go to the Army office and tell them you want to join. The National Guard will be pretty mad but it won't stop you from joining Active Duty.

I did this back in 1998. It was pretty easy then. Just went to the Army recruiter, signed up like anyone else , and got a letter from my National Guard Company Commander saying that I was fit for active duty and that he released me from the Gaurd. However, there wasnt a war in Iraq then. Now the National Guard may not be so quick to let it's soldiers go over to active duty because most Guard Units have to keep their numbers up so they can deploy to Iraq. Thats something that you must discuss with your Nat guard CO.

You can get out of your Guard contract and sign one with Active Duty still. Your recruiter won't like it, and he may tell you "well, we can't do it" but that's not true. It's your life. Go talk to the active recruiter lol, he might help you...or maybe not. but it is your right to change your mind until you get on the plane for basic..

Yes this is very common and easily done. Go to your local Army recruiting office and they can start the paperwork.
BTW you mentioned 7 weeks before basic. if you go Active that is plenty of time to get you promoted to E2 using the Pre Basic Training task list. (basically learn a little first aid, and pass an Army PT test). Its definitely worth the pay jump.
You could make E3 (or E2) if you refer a friend.

Yes its possible to do, it depends on the commander of your unit that you get assigned to in order for him/her to sign your paperwork to release you to active duty though. If that unit is getting ready to deploy your most likely stuck until 60-90 days after the deployment ends though.

Sure can. Just talk to your recruiter, Plt. Sgt., 1sgt, or someone like that in your Guard unit and they'll start the paper work.

Well, go ask the recruiter! It shouldn't be real hard, what with those pesky wars and low volunteer rates right now!
