I am in trouble and need to --have to get healthier. I want it bad and in order to be around in 20 yrs+ I have to make a life choice to eat better and to get fit.

What the recommended weight for my age and height is 140 lbs. I am no where near that. Well triple that. Anyways--my question is how, how to do it and what works??? I work 6 days a week and only have time for three meals a day. I work for a optometrist, we have patients all day, and can only take a lunch break-so the eat 5 meals a day is out of the question, I just cannot do that. But other than that what can i do??
I have a membership at the gym-What machines are good and how long to do each one??

This is not something fast. I want to change my habits and lose weight and be able to walk up a flight of stairs without being winded. So if there is anyone with some good suggestions, please tell me.

Thanks

Hun, I'm down with the problem of dieting. Don't diet, just cut your intake down and supplement with vegetable sticks. Keep a pocket full of carrot, celery, cucumber sticks, and zucchini sticks. Keep them in a little plastic baggy and when a gurgle hits just reach for one. And plan out your lunches with nice salads you make at home, use olive oil and vinegar to make a nice little vinaigrette or use lemons in place of vinegar or even limes to mix it up a bit , keep things interesting so you don't want to run and scream from dieting. I also buy some nice luncheon meats like smoked turkey and cut it up in strips to sprinkle on my salad to give me protein. Have a sensible dinner like--broiled chicken breast, and a large salad w/vinaigrette, then after supper go for a bit of a walk and increase the time slowly till you can go for an hour or more. You will see after two weeks or so that some weight has come off. It will take as long to take off as it did to put on. I should know, I went from 330 to 160 and still going down slowly. Good luck, Hon.

you dont have to sit down for half an hour to have a meal! you can have 3 general meals and sneak in 2 - get some trail mix you can snack on or granola bars or make a quick protein shake - you can make it just out of protein powder and water or juice.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 400-500cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose. If you are that much over weight -track how many calories a day you eat now and take 400-500cal off that number. Or eat as much as you need for your desired weight. - i would need to know how much you are eating now to tell you exactly how many to eat.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise and burns fat all over your body (running, jogging, swimming, spinning, elliptical etc) 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
sit ups do not burn fat - all they do is build muscle and make your belly look bigger
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

start by taking a 10 minute walk every day when you get home. build up to 30 minutes of walking or if you have the energy and ability, work out on the elliptical or bicycle for 30 minutes at the gym. for meals, you can get away with 3 meals as long as each one includes complex carbs, lean proteins, and good fats (check the label it should be mostly monounsaturated and polyunsaturated). if u want more details let me know!

Can you find a friend to join you in losing weight? Some one to in courage you and has the same goals is really helpful, and makes exercising a lot more fun too.

hello. you have a gum membership, use it. do a warmup and warmdown with each exercising. My exercising at 'my' gym (Ymca) was done in a one hour's space of time.. do NOT waste your gym membership. you CAN do that for yourself. brinh s gym member can mean something as simple as going every other day. whatever you do, keep it up, sure you'll have a glowing result. : }

Do not diet just eat smaller portions. Look to see if you have sleep apnea?
