My mother, 64, is to see a DR on Wed, but I am wondering what the possiblities could be. She lives in another state, & on the phone not too long ago she asked what a panic attack felt like, I told her of mine & she said she thought she was having them bc she was having shortness of breath. She told my sister she was going to have a mamogram(wed) because she was feeling pains in her breasts, no lumps. I think she tried to write off the breast pains & breathing problems as a mild panic attack, but I think she is sure that is not what it is. She lives with a smoker, has all of her life and she works in a bar around smokers. I am wondering if the DR's are looking for lung cancer. What other things could show these symptoms?

Hello???? Try heart disease, heart attack, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, just to name a few. Your mother needs to get her butt to the ER tonight. Lumps in the breast will not cause shortness of breath, but everything that I mentioned will -- along with the chest pain. Women don't show heart attack symptoms the same way men do. Sometimes all we get is jaw pain or a stomach ache. Lung cancer also won't show up as chest pain, but will present as a cough. Her problems sound heart related to me, but she needs to see a doctor who can examine her and she really should see one now, not later on in the week. Time wasted is tissue killed.

I'm not a doctor, just to make it clear. But I had a heart attack before and I had experienced all the symptoms you're saying here. Just like you, I live a healthy lifestyle- no smoking, gym, eating healthy. But I still had an attack. Pain that usually start at the lower abdomen then radiating to upper left breast to left shoulder is a sure sign of an impending heart attack. I would suggest you consult a heart specialist and ask for an Angiogram, this is the best way to see if there's a blockage in your heart. Second opinion wouldn't hurt you.

Those are not symptoms of lung cancer......there are no symptoms for that until its too late. But still, those would not be the signs of cancer. All of the things that u described somes just like anxiety/panick attack. When she goes to the doc, after he rules out this, that, and the other.....tell her to get a script for anxiety.

Yes, lung cancer must be ruled out but it sounds like she is developing a panic disorder.
