I notice this especially in the Atheist vs. Christian questions. I go back and check and the best answer is more often or not just something that regurgitates the asker's viewpoint (which is usually fairly evident from the question)

Are we trying to get a true understanding and knowledge of each other or just trying to validate our own opinion?

I ask questions because I'm genuinely interested in the opinions of others, whatever they may be. If I want hard evidence and validation, I'll do real research, and I already know what I think. But there are a lot of people on here asking questions as veiled requests for validation. I usually ignore or poke fun at the question.

YA started out with persons asking sincere questions but it quickly deteriorated to, as you put it, folks just looking for validation. They don't care about trying to understand the position or beliefs of others. I've seen some seriously hateful questions and the best answer was given to the seriously hateful response - which dovetailed quite nicely with the hateful question.

Once in awhile, though, somebody asks a sincere question because they are looking for a sincere response.

I rarely ask questions; when I do it is for the genuine seeking of knowledge of a particular skill or minute area of life. I asked for advice on what to tell an 8th grade graduation class in an address at their commencement exercises. I also asked for help on how to go about writing a first-class crossword puzzle. My first question received a couple of good answers but also a bunch tripe from boorish cynics. Answers for the second were worthless; I guess great puzzle writers are busy writing puzzles and not reading Yahoo!Answers.
But I'd have to agree with you; we search for validation; many questions have two purposes. One is to gain reinforcement for set beliefs. The other is to take cheap shots at the opposition. What bothers me are the Christians who take part in the sniping. That, it seems to me, is a betrayl of Christ - love your neighbor; season your speech with salt.

Although my past intent was for thought provoking info
opposition welcome) the range of answers was so broad
( and a lot just negative rantings) that in no way could it
be used to validate may opinion, However, there have
been enough thoughtful inputs for giving reason for more
respect for the reasoning/logic involved with the oppositions
opinion. Just as a statement of fact, I am a Christian with
the belief in God the Creator.

For the most part, the only time I ask a question is when I have a genuine need to know something. (Or when R&S is on a "raid" somewhere.)

If I wanted someone to echo what I was thinking, I'd go to the nearest mountain.

i see that a lot, especially in the section you mentioned.

i don't personally need or want anyone to validate my opinions. i came to my conclusions on my own, & if i ever decide to change them, then i will do that on my own as well.

I am here to learn some things, have a good time, and try to educate the ignorant.

You're probably right....but its not just in this category, it's true of most questions....

Closed minds ?

Fear of the unknown ? ( a conflicting answer might mean someone has to change their known "safe" beliefs or behaviours )

I believe I have only asked about four questions. I don't believe any of the four had to do with what I do or do not believe directly.
