SO I have myself a predicament. Does anyone know the NYS law about perjury and false staments. I filed a police report against my bf saying he broke into our house. He climbed through a window to get in one night because I wasnt home. His name isn't on the lease nor does he have keys so they charged him with burglary. I was summoned to court and testified under oath for the DA. But this really is more than it needs to be, so I called the DA and told her I lied and wanted take back my statment. She said it was Perjury and I would be charged accordingly for that and false statements. Anybody have any clue as to what can happen??? Thank you.

If nothing happened to clinton, what can happen to you.

Just say it was about sex and you will get off.

Just kidding, perjury in the state of new york is punishable up to 1 year in prison and a $5,000 fine.

If when your boyfriend was arrested, you had told the police that you were 'mistaken' and he did have your 'permission to enter' with or without keys, you would not have committed perjury or made 'false statement' even though you would have been 'lying.' Since you 'testified in a court of law' after taking the oath to 'tell the truth, the whole truth' then THAT is 'considered to be the truth' ... and if you 'called later and admitted you had lied under oath' you have, in fact, committed perjury and made 'false statements' to the court ... and you may be 'arrested' or 'subpoenaed' to court and 'charged' with both 'illegal acts.' I suggest you hire an 'attorney' who has the 'necessary skills' to help you 'out' of this mess you got yourself into ... if you could go to the DA and 'apologize profusely' and tell him that you were 'under stress' after having your boyfriend arrested, you may be given a 'slap on the hand' and probation ... but if you 'did way too much' you will probably have to do some 'jail time' ... but I doubt you'll be sent to prison, if this was your 'first offense' of any kind.

You changing your sworn statement on the stand to protect your boyfriend is perjury!

Why would you lie about your boyfriend breaking in, and who would live there and not have a key? And why would you call the cops?

Don't lie for your boyfriend, it isn't worth it no matter that you changed your mind about your relationship. That is common among women who are battered. I am not saying you are! I just don't understand why you would want to lie for him?

In NY you can do up to 366 days in the state penn for perjury. it's not 365 or less because you could do that in a county jail. They don't want that.

You should have just saw it through, since he actually committed a crime and should pay. Now YOU may
