it just depends on what the bride wants. :) personally i had a bouquet that was very close to my bridesmaids. i wanted something small (i wanted to be the main focus :P ). but to each their own decision. i am sure it will look nice.
i would go to the florist and see if there are any test runs laying around so she can hold them up and see what size works for her.

It's perfectly normal for the bride to have a cascading bouquet, where it would be rather unusual for bridesmaids to have such elaborate bouquets.
On the other hand, it sounds rather as though you're asking if that's the only option. The answer to that is no. If she's worried a cascade will be too much for her, she may also carry a round bouquet or a variety of other styles. The bride should discuss proportion with her florist. A good professional should be able to give her a variety of options from small nosegays all around to a cascade that will suit the lady carrying it to a style of bouquet she may not have considered yet.

First of all, slow down. With regard to your bouquet...it's all personal choice. What style do you like? Usually the bridal bouquet is different from the bridesmaids, although they should compliment each other, by use of a similar flower or shape. I used a cascade of multiple types of white flowers with a few pale blue ribbons, whereas the bridesmaids had a nosegay style with multi colors and varied flowers...it was a springtime wedding. Never, ever give larger sizes for varied sized girls...it's like saying, your fat so you get bigger flowers. How insulting. They should all be the same. If you want to set apart your MOH, her flowers can be either a smaller version of your style, or a larger version of what all the other girls carry. Every selection is a matter of choice, taste and compliment! Best of Luck, I'm sure you'll make a beautiful choice!

I worked for a florist for 2 years, we did tons of weddings, and this was VERY common. Cascading bouquets have actually come a long way. They don't have to look like 1980's, and can actually have a very modern flair. Avoid fillers like baby's breath, it tends to really date arrangements, and have the florist add some different types of greenery to update it. Since the bride is on the more petite side, definetly alert the florist that she wants a smaller cascading bouquet, your right to be concerned about a big one overwhelming her, but a good florist can determine appropriate size based off the brides size!
All in all, I think it would be very pretty if done in an up-to-date fashion (which IS totally possible) and she should go for it!

Personally, I'm not a fan of the cascading bouquets. Those were a very big trend in the 80's and early 90's. Every-time I see one, I just think it's really old fashioned.
I love the rounded bouquets, I love how the flowers just look very neat and well put together. The cascading bouquet just seems very big and a little bit overwhelming (on anyone). Plus, it hides so much of the dress. Here you are, walking down the aisle in a great dress. The flowers are suppose to accent your dress, not take away from it.
I would get rounded bouquets for yourself and your maids. Have the maids bouquets be smaller and of a different color and flower arrangement.
Have your bouquet be a bit larger and more dramatic.
The example, have your maids carry a bouquet of calla lillies a one or two nicely placed roses.
For your bouquet, do all roses in one or two different colors. Your bouquet will be much more dramatic, yet understated enough that it's not distracting.

I agree with those that think that the cascading bouquets are rather outdated. I think that if she is only 5 3 a large bouquet would be way to much. Maybe if she had a smaller bouquet to match her frame and then the bridesmaids carry a single calla lilly. I think that would look very beautiful and elegant.
Davids Bridal has pictures of a beautiful bouquet done with Calla Lillies.
Hope this helped!

It's whatever you like. I personally hate the cascading bouquets and I thought they weighed a lot. I had a nice round bouquet of roses with accent flowers added. The girls had smaller more colorful round bouquets.

I am a florist, and someone who is 5'2. There is no "normal" when it comes to flowers any more. However, I am 5'2 and carried a cascading bouquet that went past my knees. I had my bridesmaides carry hand helds that used the same flowers as mine, but didn't look like it at all!

I am 5' I had a huge huge cascading bouquet that would have made Princess Di envy. My brides maid had the normal round. It looked fine.

I am only 5'3" and I had a cascading boquet, and my bridesmaids/matron of honor had small ones. Teh bride's boquet should be more opulent than the bridemaids, as the bride is the focal point. You don't have to have it cascading very far if you think that it will make you look shorter, but it should be bigger than the flowers the bridesmaids have.

When my daughter married two years ago, we ordered a
cascading bouquet, but what we got was crap. She
cried. It was one of those rounded ones, that didn't look
like a bride's bouquet. The maid of honor's bouquet
looked better. There was no confusion. The flowers the bride you are describing sound lovely. Bouquets can be made in various sizes. Sounds fine. They don't have to match. Go
with it.
