I don't understand the first one, but the second one is certainly a good one. Try these:
If you need a helping hand, look at the end of your wrist.
I've known writers that have known each other for years, and never met in the daylight or when both were sober.
Funerals are for the living.

Don't ever regret the things that made you smile and the one about the things you did being exactly what you wanted at the time ARE so true... thank you. My friend died and being with him did make me smile- thank you for reminding me of the love we shared, not just the bad times.
Living well is the best revenge.
Everything works together for the good of those that love the Lord.

"The point is, ladies and gentleman, that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right, greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA. Thank you very much." ~Michael Douglas, Wall Street (1987)

I like your quotes as well. Mine are:
"Never regret the things you done in your past - at one time it was exactly what you wanted"
And "Impossible is a matter of opinion - not a fact"
There are many I like but these two are my favorite.
