Tetanus is what is commonly called "lock jaw". If you had an injury that might have gotten dirt in it, you should have a tetanus shot, to be safe.

Well, first you have to get a wound involving metal penetrating the skin. Now, whether you are at risk of contracting it depends on when you got your tetanus booster shot. The vaccine.

Now, also it depends on how deep the wound is.

If you got just a scratch, it ok. If you had a deep wound, you need to get another shot. This is from my personal experience.
