Not as scary as "In-Flight Missile Repairman".
Actually, I think I'd be more worried if he was a Parachute Rigger.
These guys pack parachutes all day long, day in and day out. At any given moment, an inspector can tap them on the shoulder and say "Put on the last one you finished, you're going to go jump with it."

I have a slightly differing scale for best and worst.
Ask the recruiter to show you the E-5 promotion cutoff scores for each MOS you might consider -- the lower the cutoff score, the better. Jobs with low cutoff scores usually mean more room for advancement and fewer bottlenecks saturated with scores of soldiers in the same unit at the same rank competing for the same job.
11B has a favorable score right now, in the 400's I believe.
350 is the lowest and 800 (I'm pretty sure) is the highest.
Remember, the closer to 350, the better.

The best and worse MOS is really up to the servicemember. It depends on what the person likes or dislikes. If you like cooking, Food Service is a good MOS, if you like working on machines or with your hands, mechanic is a good one, or if you prefer desk work, an administrative MOS would be good.
As for your boyfriend, infantry would be good if he's a soldier at heart, and if he's a tough outdoors type.

Well it would almost assure a deployment to a war zone. Don't believe the phony bologna stories about the Guard not going to war! My guard unit served in every war from WWI through Vietnam. We missed going to Desert Storm by a few weeks.
We also helped out with several floods, and numerous community service projects in our town.
To the best of my knowledge there is no "safe" MOS. Every job has the possibility of danger. You just have to have faith in his ability to perform. Try not to worry, and give him all the support that you can.
The military can be a very rewarding life, if you give it your all.
Good luck.

There is no 'best and worst' MOS. Its really up to the person enlisting. I would hate infantry, but I love Aviation. Some love to work on trucks, and are scared of flying.
If he really wants to be infantry, he should think about Active Duty Army for the crazy cash bonuses that are offered, and better college money.
