I'm an international student studying in the USA. I applied for a credit card, but was declined. Apparently I didn't have any tradelines. What is that, and what does that mean? What can I do?

trade lines are installment loans and credit lines and mortgages. you need to get at least a credit card and a loan , like a personal loan from a bank or even a collateral loan from a bank. there are plenty of credit cards out there look on, http://www.creditcards.com they have credit cards with guaranteed approvals for anyone with an income, job and checking account.
good luck.

You could use one of those add a tradeline programs to add you as an authorized user and help build your credit. Check out the free evaluation form at the source website and you will be contacted with more info. Good luck.

The credit bureaus don't have any info on you. Because of that the credit card companies cannot see your credit history.

You might speak to your bank or credit union about opening a secured credit card to get your credit history started.

It means other creditors you owe the money. If you don't have other credit cards or loans, that means you don't have any trade lines.
