Is it a party? If so, something in large quantities. Buy a couple packs of hot dogs for $2.00 a pack, a bag of chips for $2, buns $1, ketchup $1, a bag of mini carrots $2, some dip $2, and a watermelon $3.
You could do spaghetti with meat sauce some garlic bread, and a couple cans of fruit cocktail for close to $13. Even a hamburger helper for 8 should cost you around $9 including the beef.
For drinks try something healthy that won't ruin their teeth. Kool Aid is not a good option though it's cheap their teeth will cost more to fix. Get some milk or ice water.

I would recommned a sav a lot , or aldi type store. Also try bread discount stores for keeping bread on hand for peanut butter sandwiches, grilled cheese. ect. I can get holsum bread for like .35 cent becasue it is close to outdating from date, it is still good and can be frozen and it goes so fast here with 4 kids and husband and lunches.
Also buy bulk items. Little cans cost more and dont feed as much. I buy huge bulk cans and make two meals out of one then paying 1.69 for a small can. Sauces for spagetti can also cost right around 1.00 for 3 packets. oodles are very inexpensive and can be used for many things. Buy cereal in bags versus boxes you get more for your money and usually it is alot cheaper.
you could take 4-5 boxes of mac n cheese (1.50) and added peas and brocolli and chicken pieces to make a meal for about 6.00 for a family of 10.
Soups are real good too if made from scratch.

Do you have an Aldi store near you? You can get lot's of basic stuff for great savings.

Mix and match food. Macaroni and cheese with ground beef. Other noodle and cheese mixes with ground beef, ground turkey or chicken bits are all quite good. Good old rice and beans is inexpensive - can be dressed with ketchup for those who desire it.

Also, when you do get things on a good deal, make some stuff ahead of time - chili, meat loaf, lasagna - make a good load and freeze it.

And the freezer is great for saving money. Got a good deal on chicken? Pack it in the freezer. Ground beef? Freeze it. Bread? Yup, freeze it. If you are able, get a good sized chest freezer to store whatever. Just be mindful of how long some things can be frozen -date 'em and check 'em.

Do you have a Produce Junction near you? Great place to get those fruits and veggies without breaking the bank.

mac and cheese is pretty cheap.so is spaghetti and sauce, especially if you don't put meat in it, or just a little.
pb and j sandwiches are pretty cheap.
eggs are a great cheap source of protein and you can make french toast with just bread and eggs and that can feed a lot of kids pretty cheap. even pancakes are pretty inexpensive considering how filling they are.
soups are also a great way to feed lots of people without spending a lot of money. lots of vegetables, a little oil, lots of water, and lots of time just simmering on the stove and you've got a great soup.

Pasta.....$.99 a box, and sauce $2.39 for sauce

not sure why someone would give a thumbs down for this, as you can buy whole wheat pasta which is healthy, and 1 cup of sauce on pasta provides a day's worth of vegetables.....much better than hot dogs and mac and cheese if you ask me.

Pasta is usually cheap, ground beef, chicken on sale- I can get a package of legs holding 18 for about 3.00. Look for sale veggies in the produce department- you can chop them up and saute them with some oil or butter and put them on the pasta.
Use your imagination!
