Yes, but hell was divided into two compartments that were separated by a wide chasm. One side was for the righteous dead, and the other side was for the unrighteous dead. They could not go from one side to the other either. When Jesus was crucified, He went to the righteous side and preached to those people. They are no longer in hell, but with the Lord now.

That is only according to Christian belief. Hindus believe in reincarnation until the soul has completed all its required tasks and goes to Nirvana. Muslims believe that only through Allah can you go to heaven. Jews believe that the righteous of all nations have a place in the world to come (heaven). Worthy Vikings went to Valhalla (their term for heaven). Sorry but I cannot give you the Zoroastrian viewpoint.

Religion does not have this controversy within, that is why Prophet Muhammad never claim that he is the only True Prophet, but very truly and justifiably He preached that since first human being Prophet Adam who ever worship only One True God Almighty and followed True Holy Prophets of God Almighty are Muslim as definition and practice.
By definition " Muslim " means who Submits his or her will unconditionally to the will of God Almighty and Obey His Commands is Muslim, and this teaching is called Islam.
All Prophets of God Almighty preached same teachings and there is no contradiction in teaching but there is continuous progression and evolution in Religious teachings and commandments.
This process of evolution starts with first human being Prophet Adam, and passing through Prophet Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, completed on Last and Final Prophet and Messenger Prophet Muhammad ( Peace and blessings of God Almighty on all of them).

No. Those who lived godly lives went to a waiting place until the gates of heaven were opened. Jesus visited them there after His Resurrection, to bring them the good news.

Well the person that said yes doesn't know what they are talking about. No one knows what exactly happened back in the days except God. and all the facts that ARE known are in the bible. Don't believe no one on here with answers to stuff that far in the past towards religion except God.

No faith in God was always reckoned as righteousness. Heb. 11 gives many Old Testament examples of faith, e.g. Abel, Abraham, Noah, etc.
Salvation has always been based on faith...not works or good deeds.

According to scripture no one is in hell. They are in the waiting place, to be judged in the future.

Yes. An those that died after he died..
From the reasoning book:
What sort of people go to the Bible hell?
Does the Bible say that the wicked go to hell?
Ps. 9:17, KJ: “The wicked shall be turned into hell,* and all the nations that forget God.” (*“Hell,” 9:18 in Dy; “death,” TEV; “the place of death,” Kx; “Sheol,” AS, RS, NE, JB, NW.)
Does the Bible also say that upright people go to hell?
Job 14:13, Dy: “[Job prayed:] Who will grant me this, that thou mayst protect me in hell,* and hide me till thy wrath pass, and appoint me a time when thou wilt remember me?” (God himself said that Job was “a man blameless and upright, fearing God and turning aside from bad.”—Job 1:8.) (*“The grave,” KJ; “the world of the dead,” TEV; “Sheol,” AS, RS, NE, JB, NW.)
Acts 2:25-27, KJ: “David speaketh concerning him [Jesus Christ], . . . Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell,* neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” (The fact that God did not “leave” Jesus in hell implies that Jesus was in hell, or Hades, at least for a time, does it not?) (*“Hell,” Dy; “death,” NE; “the place of death,” Kx; “the world of the dead,” TEV; “Hades,” AS, RS, JB, NW.)
