I'm using two different prescribed creams that my doctor told me to use, and it seems to make the acne clear up a bit. However, I stil break out, and because my face is oily, the blemishes caused by the pimples last a long time. I tried so many over-the-counter cleansers and such, but to be honest, nothing works. I hear that cucumber and lemon juice is a good way to fight oil, and steaming your face will help clear the pores. Is this true, and what are some other easy ways to help fight acne and oil, something preferrably that can be done at home?

Any techniques you use will be only temporary fixes, and that's the truth. You will eventually grown out of this oily stage, but until then, the best you can do is "manage" it. Beware of steaming--it can burn! Beware of harsh masks, alcohol, and abrasives, which can all aggravate your skin.

Here are some tips:
1. Cleanse at night, removing all makeup. Be gentle! You may find that a foaming cleanser for sensitive skin actually works better than one labeled for acne. Follow up with one of your prescribed creams.
2. In the morning, wash your face with just warm water and a clean cloth.
3. Check out oil mattifying products--Mary Kay makes a great one. They smooth on over your clean skin and help absorb oil during the day.
4. Do you wear makeup? If so, check into mineral foundations. They are so gentle and natural and won't "melt" off your skin the way liquids do. Jane, Avon, and L'oreal make great ones you can buy at the drugstore.
5. Stay away from creamy makeup products. Use powder forms of blush and eyeshadow.
6. Blot often during the day. Mary Kay makes Beauty Blotters that come in a little pack for $5. They are so thin you will think they're paper, but they are actually linen. You press the little tissues gently along the oily places and it absorbs the excess. In a pinch--a square of toilet paper!

I wish I could tell you that you could "get rid" of this oil, but that's just not going to happen...yet. Your skin issues are caused by hormones, not oil or dirt, but with care you can manage them.

Okay, well I get the occassional zit so I think I can help.

I started using Neutrogena Micro Clear foam and the lotion. It works really good. I love it. Do the foam everyday in the morning and at night. After about 10 minutes of washing apply the Micro Clear lotion. After about 2 weeks star using the Micro Clear exfoliating scrub, and do the same routine with the lotion.
Use astringent during the day. I like Biore's. It will get rid of oil and dirt.

Make sure your hands are clean when you wash your face. I always wash my hands with soap before I wash my face so I don't spread and add even more bacteria.

Do a facial once a week, you probably have oily skin, so I would suggest an oil absorbing mask. Try the one by Biore, leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse.

Drink plenty of water! I usually drink 8 cups a day.
Working out helps blood flow circulate, which can help rejuvenate skin.

Now for the homemade routines.

Put honey on the infected area, it draws out bacteria and softens the zit. Leave it on for 5 minutes and rinse with warm water.

Mix 1/4 cup brown sugar with 3 tablespoons milk unti lthey form a paste. Rub the mixture gently on your face for 1 minute. Rinse well with warm water for clear skin ---> this is from a CosmoGirl! article for clear skin.

Moisturize your skin also. I would reccomend, even if you don't have that much money to buy a good moisturizer that is OIL FREE.

Or you can do a steam treatment (britney spears does these ;)......
Boil a pot of water and removie it when it starts to steam and then put your face over it and keep it there for 10 minutes. Then wash your face. The steam will open your pores and then washing your face will get rid of bacteria and dirt.

You may want to get an acne spot treatment too.

Good Luck. If you have any more questions feel free to ask, I have so many beauty books with facials and skin care it is crazy!

Hi,
I am a dermatologist by profession and within a careeer of 10 years I have seen lots of acne problems. According to me Red and white pimples are the worst and painful. Acne prone skin is very sensitive, even if you touch it once the redness will increase with itching. According to me there is no magical way to heal your pimples over night as this is the puffed part of your skin due to the bacteria.

In simple words try to improve your diet and have lots of water that helps in healingg process. Un-necessary oily food should be avoided to get a healthy spotless skin.

Since you are using prescription acne creams, I would advise you to have an easy approach to your delicate skin... For starters "routine" is key in taking care of your skin.. .I like to use a mild cleanser like Cetaphil 2x a day morning/night I also to gently exfoliate put about 1 tablespoon of baking soda into it 3x a week... I instead of using an expensive alocohol based toner I like to use Witch Hazel which like the Cetaphil is available at any drug store or big box chain store... Use that 2x a day to take off dirt and oil.. Also, when you go to sleep at night try to keep your hair off your face as much as possible I use and old t-shirt sleeve for that purpose... Oh and get a good moisturizer.. Good luck
