As a Christian - never !!! All my consequences have been self-inflicted - not of "God's punishment". God does not go about "punishing" people. Only people, who do not have a spiritual relationship with God, the Father, through Jesus Christ, do NOT know God and attribute harshness to Him. God loves ALL humans and He is in the SAVING business - not the punishing business !!!

I have done plenty of things wrong in my life, and yes, God would have punished me for life, which I deserve- and I would have round up in hell, where I deserve. However, through the shed blood of Christ I am forgiven, and saved. That does not mean that God never disciplines me though- He does that because He loves me. Don't earthly fathers do that with their children? So how can expect the Lord, the Father of all , not to do that with us.
the first answer intrigues me- "I told God He did not exist, and God said- "No I don't". This was meant as a joke I know however, it really is enlightening to me anyway- someone does not believe God however, He believes someone that does not exist will tell him He doesn't. INTERESTING!!

Yes!! He got me 4 times before I realized it was Him doing it. Once I recognized it, told Him I was sorry the punishment left.
He has even shown me short incidences of punishment just to prove to me who holds the power. The joys of becoming a minister :) He's got a sense of humor too few realize.

My view point is this.....there are consequences to our actions. So if we have done wrong the consequence is the loss of something (i.e. friendship, finances, etc) The Holy Spirit will convict us of our wrong doing..actually we already know that what we are about to do is wrong and we go ahead anyway. So, when we are getting ready to do something wrong and do things our way, God removes His hands from us because He cannot bless or participate in that wrong doing and we stop the flow of blessings.

Hebrews 12. Whom the Lord {punishes] chastens he loves them. God correct us.
But you can take this to the bank ...God never gives us the punishment that we deserve. Jesus is our source.

I don't believe in God so I guess I'll have to wait for th afterlife to see what he'll punish me with.
Of course The devil, Satan and Belzebub will fight over my dead body to see if I go to the Christian hell, Jewish hell or Muslim hell.
