If you need to ask this question then it would better if you don't go into your T.V. and fix it, T.V. Flyback transformers produce voltages in the 10's of thousands of volts and can jump an arc over 2 inchs in humid conditions. When the T.V. is unplugged the main cap is charged up to or over 500 volts and can cook you like a hot dog in seconds with the TV unplugged remember. The tools involved with troubleshooting a TV are extremely expensive and absolutely required a scope alone costs over 300 dollars. Your best option is to take the TV to you nearest technical school such as a vocational school, many of these places will repair your TV for very cheap if you don't mind the wait and they are properly equipped to test TV components.

How come relplacing it is not an option? Then again, does your qestion say PAYING someone to repair it is not an option, too?

Well, if you really know what you're doing, do what the guy said about replacing the capacitors. But you REALLY have to know what you are doing!!! It is a highly skilled profession, and the voltages in there are LETHAL!!!

I wish you all the best! If I can help in any way, E-Mail me.

Open the set (while it is unplugged) and look at the electrolytic
capacitors on the circuit boards. They are the plastic covered cylindrical components of various sizes. See if any of the cylinders are rounded instead of flat on top and replace those. Their values are printed on them, one number followed by a "v" and another followed by the Greek letter mu and an "f".
