From a guy's point of view,, we seem to associate that the mood,, moody behaviour on the part of women is directly related to the PMS, that time of the month. I understand that it can be very painful but is the grumpy mood directly associated to that particular time of month,, three to five days or do women get upset and in a bad mood because it is caused by pain or both? Ladies, give me some of your personal views on this. By the way, I actually feel bad that you suffer such days, month after month after month. Believe me, you have my respect, not any pitty at all, so please don't take it wrong.

When a woman is having her period, she is uncomfortable which COULD make her irritable and grumpy.
However, she will be upset by anything that would normally make a person upset (their guy being lazy or a jerk, bad news, stress, etc)
Men like to blame a woman's mood on PMS but more times than not, it is due to something else (like us!)

The menstral cycle is directly related to the hormones which give you your "moods" or emotions. So yeah, it's frustrating for me too, that I'll be grumpy and pick on everything my husband says or does and nothing he does or says is right, even if I told him so say it or do it! When I try to pinpoint what it was that was done to make me grumpy, I can't come up with an answer! If feels as though I'm a puppet and someone is making me feel and says things that I don't want. I'm one of the lucky gals and only get one day of painful cramps, and when I'm in pain and nothing I do makes it go away I get grumpy. But that's during the cycle, PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome) usually causes moods in the week before the cycle.

It's more related to the fluctuations of hormones mostly experienced around that time of the month.
If you want to know how it feels, then picture this:
Cramps - take a wrench, grab your stomach with it and twist until you feel the pain spreading into your back and down your legs
Retaining water - put about 4 water balloons in your boxers and try to get into your regular clothes
Fatigue - Lift a bunch of weights and take a sleeping pill but try to stay awake and go through your normal routine
Mood swings - no way to describe this other than wanting to ring the hell outta someone's neck and cry about it at the same time
Deal with all that for a week every month and then maybe you'll understand why girls can be such bitches. Oh and by the way, the hormone fluctuations can actually happen at any time, but it's mostly at "that time". Exactly why women crave chocolate - it increases seratonin levels.

Hormone changes can cause mood swings. There is medication for this problem, she should seek a doctors advice. If she has severe pain she may suffer from a disorder of the lining of the uterus, bleeding outside of the womb causing scar tissue and pain and should be seen by the doctor. Different women, react differently to these hormonal changes. Not all are grumpy and moody. Some women refer to PMS as, 'putting up with men's sh*t'. Lol.........joke.
Then you have menopause to look forward too next. That's a whole other world of cr*p.

Everyone is different. PMS is really pre-menstrual, which means it begins before menstruation actually begins. Many women are particularly moody a few days before it starts, extra emotional. This could be a bad mood or teariness. I believe this is a hormonal thing. The pain can usually be helped by taking medication. Some women experience excruciating pain. No one can be happy while suffering.

Well, part of PMS is moodiness, I know that when everything people say pisses me off, my period is coming. When I'm having the cramps, it makes my mood worse, especially since mine are really bad, and the people in my family are people I can't stand, and TRY to upset me when they know I'm PMSing. So it can be both. Then there are some women who are just b!tches, 24/7, all the time. Thanks for understanding, and not thinking of it as something disgusting.

well as your homone levels change as they do at that time of the month, it creates a change in moods. but this is not always why a woman is grouchy during her period. i persoanlly have really bad back pain right before my period, and being in pain someitmes makes me a bit grouchy, but i try to take it in stride and not yell at or take it out on my loved ones. aslo if you get cramps it can cause pain.
i personally believe that some women use pms as an excuse to be moody or grouchy even when its not really due to pms. but to some other cause. i know of a woman who has done this. anyway i hope this helps you.

Some women suffer from PMS really badly, and they are grumpy, teary etc.
But it's my personal opinion that the majority of women dont have anything like this and "PMS" is just something to blame bad moods on.
(I'm female, so not just being a sexist pig, lol)

there is PMS and there is also another diagnosed medical condition called PMDD...
it is not only a fact that moods are associated with that time ofthe month, there are specific drugs now on the market to help with that aspect of it.

It's not the pms that sets us off it's the men who always say and do something stupid and it just happens to be that time of the month:)
