I choose to disagree.
1Corinthians 1:18 For the speech about the torture stake is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is God’s power. 19 For it is written: “I will make the wisdom of the wise [men] perish, and the intelligence of the intellectual [men] I will shove aside.” 20 Where is the wise man? Where the scribe? Where the debater of this system of things? Did not God make the wisdom of the world foolish? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not get to know God, God saw good through the foolishness of what is preached to save those believing.
A little while ago, those defenders of science in accusing religion of being intransigent, and science being progressive, intolerantly proclaimed that science is allowed the room for new understanding, yet at the same time hold intransigently to the current scientific views as dogmatically as the intolerant fundie.
I am coming to understand, that some (not all) science believers are really walking contradictions.

Actually the further our science progresses the more convincing the argument for a spiritual aspect of existence becomes.
String theory is, to date, the most complete scientific explanation of the cosmos that we have. It postulates the existence of 11 dimensions; 1 time dimension, 3 'unfolded' spacial dimensions, and 7 others that we are not able to experience physically because they are somehow 'folded' or closed. It also postulates that the particles that make up our universe are not particles at all, but strings. All strings vibrate, and the frequency of this vibration determines how the string behaves and interacts with other strings (i.e. what type of 'particle' it is).
It is believed (through the use of theoretical mathematics and computer modeling) that these strings can vibrate in all 11 dimensions. So we can't experience all 11 dimensions but the particles we are made of can? Or maybe we do experience these dimensions, only in ways we do not understand.
A parallel theory is known as the Holographic Model. It describes the universe as an interaction of waves (which actually ties in quite nicely with string theory if you do a little reading). These waves, it postulates, are essentially thought. It sounds like mumbo jumbo, but this is a legitimate scientific theory supported by cosmologists, medical researchers, paranormalists, and physicists around the world. It describes the universe, essentially, as an interference pattern (a phenomena originally discovered by studying light waves).
An easy way to demonstrate this theory is to drop two small rocks into a still tub full of water, some distance apart. As the ripples radiate from the separate points of impact they will eventually collide and interfere with each other. The result is an interference pattern, albeit a very simple one.
This theory also supports the argument for our spiritual nature, and has made significant progress into explaining every psychic phenomenon known to us. I would remind all you spiritual skeptics out there that the Holographic Model is gaining slow but steady support in the scientific community, and draw its information from scientific methodology.
Recent studies have given evidence that humans actually emit photons. How can a person create light? Where would this light come from?
Modern medical science has been unable to explain the ability of techniques purported to heal by manipulating the energy system of the patient, such as accupuncture and accupressure to actually cure people. Many doctors have dismissed them as placebo, but in studies where these and similar techniques were tested in double-blind experiments and compared with statistics for actual placebos the results were significantly in favor of the energy healing techniques. Researches went so far as to create special needles that gave the patient the impression that they had been stuck but which in fact did not penetrate the skin.
In fact given the overall picture as I see it (I do alot of research but obviously I'm not aware of all factors) I would say that the opposit is true: Spirituality (not necessarily religion) is the future, technology is the past.

All Science can bang on about is global warming.
Haven't they read that God is going to destroy this world by fire?
But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Some future Science has.
I suppose we have to humour them.

Science and religion are two entirely different things, and can therefore exist together. So science and religion are both the future and they are both the past.
Christianity says nothing about the world being created in a week, or the earth being at the centre of the universe.

Maybe the past is a lesson and the future is the possibility. Does there have to be a divide between two ideal so we can understand them? Maybe our measurement of success is how we find the common threads that allow science to expand God’s presence in our lives.

pagreen: Firstly; "Science" means "knowledge", by definition. Knowledge was, is and always will be "in style". On the other hand, "religion" is most applicable to what people serve. This is inclusive to : sex, drugs, booze, $, cars, homes, movies, careers, education, intellectualism, other people, music, clothing, etc., etc., - because what one serves, is his or her religion. Ohhh ! ... and about the Future being Science, yes; that is another religion !!!
