My cat just got neutered about 4 days ago and now he's just moping around. He's on antibiotic and we've been making sure he's eating and drinking, but still he's moping around. His bottom (where he had his surgery is sort of swelled). Is this all normal?

The stiches are supposed to dislove after a while.

I agree with everyone else. It is just going to take a bit for your kitty to get back to himself again.

I would however suggest if you have pain meds to not give them anymore after the next day or so. Pain meds are good right after the surgery but can be bad if you give it to them for too long. The reason for this is that cats/dogs need to feel the pain somewhat so they wont jump or over do it. We as humans after a surgery KNOW not to do certain things because it can rip out stitches and cause infections. Animals however do not know this and it is important for them to feel some pain in order to deter them from hurting themselves. I know it seems cruel, but it isnt. What is more cruel is allowing the animal to hurt themselves because they dont know they are hurting.

Edited: If the area seems extremely red or becomes swollen or the area has a fever (It is warm to the touch) it means there is an infection. All animals respond differently to surgery and while one animal may be just fine and have little to no swelling another might swell up like a balloon. Just watch for fluid forming under the skin (Swelling) any nasty leakage (green fluids) other leakage that is clear is fine that means its healing and maybe some dirt got in and its leaking out fluids because of that. If you see it getting extremely red with heavy swelling and its warm, take your kitty back to the vet.

Hello, don't worry this is very normal, it can take a week or so for the cat to settle down after this type of op and yes he will seem like he is moping due to the nature of the op - its really as if he's asking you "where have they gone? am i still a man?!" sounds silly but cats can think that way too! just keep an eye on him and he should soon be back to normal although he won't be as aggressive nor will he stray very far from home (which is usually a good thing). as long as he is eating and drinking normally it should be ok - it could also be a side effect of the anti-biotics -if things don't change after a few more days give your vet a call for some expert advice

This absolutely completely NORMAL. When your boy or girl cat is sprayed or neutered they do have a tendency to start to become lazy and not as active. Don't worry! This is not a permanent behavior. This can usually last up to a week depending on the cat. You'll also find that where he was neutered is a bit swelled it may also look red and puffy. It depend on the cat. Antibiotics does help. And as long as he's eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom normally, he shoud be fine! Also give your cat a lot of extra time to sleep to recover from the surgery. This is an absolutely normal process.

He is depressed because you took his manhood lol I know that seemed mean but all animals do that cause they know what has happened to them I had 2 animals that done to and they both moped around and swelling should go down in 2 days if not take him back to the Vet

My cat didn't even notice! There might be an infection - if there is still swelling tomorrow I should take him back to the vet. He might just be moping because he is reacting to the antibiotics, however. When do you have to take him back to have the stitches out?

You should go the vet and get a follow up check up. And ofcourse the cat is moping around he got neutered.

Hopefully you were given pain medication for him? If not, get a new vet as that is very inhumane. He could still be painful, or maybe the antibiotic is making him nauseated. I'd call your vet--he shouldn't charge for a surgery recheck.
