I like cake cold, and thicker chocolate frosting and filing. Any recipes that anyone has made and froze, that taste better than store bought?

Hi Kim W,

Fudge Layer Cake
A delicious cake, black with choclate--two 9" cakes
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate,
1 1/2 cups sugar,
1/2 cup shortening.
1 teaspoon vanilla,
3 eggs,
2 cups cake flour,
1 teaspoonbaking soda,
1/2 teaspoon salt,
2/3 cup milk,
Preheat oven 350 degrees.
Butter pans & lightly flour two 9 inch cake pans.

Put the chocolate, 6 tablespoons water & 1/2 cup sugar in bottom of pan over low heat, stirring often.
As the chocolate melts stir vigorously to blend.
Cook until the chocolate has completely melted & mixture is smooth,
Set aside.
Cream the shortening & 1 cup sugar until light,
Add vanilla until well blended,
Add the eggs one at a time beating throughly after each additon,
In bowl add flour, baking soda, salt, add alternating milk in three parts,
Add chocolate & beat until well blended,
Pour into buttered & floured cake pans.
Bake 35-40 minutes, or until toothpick comes out dry in the center of cake.
Cool in pans 10 minutes then turn cakes out onto racks then cool.

Fudge Frosting--Makes about 2 cups
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate,
1 1/3 cups sugar,
1/2 cup milk,
4 Tablespoons butter,
1 Tablespoon corn syrup,
1/4 teaspoon salt.
1 teaspoon vanilla,

Stir all ingredients except for vanilla in pan.
Bring to a rolling boil & cook, stirring vigorously, for just 1 minute,
cool.
Add vanilla & beat until thick. This will fill & frost 8" or 9" two layer cake. Freeze in RubberMade cake or Tupperware container until ready to eat. thaw & enjoy. Never fails & enjoy with chocolate milk. :0)

I also like cold, chocolate cake and strange as it may seem, have all my life (though I've not found it necessary to "freeze" the cake...right out of a cold refrigerator works for me).

I find (and this is only for the hard-core chocoholic) that (chilled) Pepperidge Farm Chocolate Fudge 3-Layer Cake topped with a healthy helping of Jello Chocolate pudding a particular satisfying fix for my way-too-frequent choco-attack.

It just so happens that recently my local Safeway has had on sale Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge cake mix (among other chocolate cake mixes such as their Devil's Food) for...$.99 (yes, 99 cents) a box (just add 3 eggs, a little water and 1/2 cup of oil and bake). So, of course I had to "do my thing" with the Jello Pudding and on these warm summer evenings, it was a satisfying treat.

Oh, and it goes without saying...I do "got milk" to go with that.
