When I go to Add/Remove programs and click the remove button, nothing happens. I want to make sure that the entire program is removed. Any tips?

Yes, there is. But if this is not done CAREFULLY you can hose your computer OS and need a total fresh re-install. So be WARNED!!!

Click on Start>Run>type regedit>when the window comes up to edit your registry highlight My Computer>click on the word Edit at the top left>select Find>type in the name of the progam and make sure all boxes are checked>click on the Find Next button.

The search will start. When it finds a file make DOUBLE sure it's to THAT program ONLY and leftclick it to Delete it. To continue the search press F3 at the top of your keyboard. Repeat until all undesired files are removed.

THEN go back through the exact same procedure only this time use the name of the VENDOR of the program. For instance: You're getting rid of AVG. Do AVG and THEN do
Grisoft.

After you're statisfied that you've deleted all the files you can find there run a Search for any remaining NON-Registry files pertaining to that program using your Search Wizzard.

To do this click Start>Search and follow the prompts.

After you're satisfied with that, run a good Registry Cleaner. I, personally, use TweakNow RegCleaner but CCleaner has gotten rave reviews as far as I've seen so far. I may even try it out before I switch over completely to Linux.

If you don't have a Registry Cleaner such as the ones I've named above you can google them to get directly from their vendors.

You can manually remove a software program but it involves making edits to the Windows registry, which is no easy task. Sometime ago, Lincoln Spector, a technical writer for PC World Magazine, wrote a great article on how to manually uninstall programs. Please read his article:

"Answer Line: Remove Apps That Don't Uninstall Themselves" -- written by Lincoln Spector, PC World Magazine. (http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,101782/article.html)

The article has detailed instructions. However, I recommend you use an uninstaller program. An uninstall progam is a special program which removes programs which either don't have an uninstall program or the program fails to work. Someone already mentioned Your Uninstaller and TuneUp Utilities 2007. I've used both in the past and they are excellent. All you have to do is point and click. Unfortunately, neither one is free but they do come with a free 30 day trial period. You can also use the free Revo (http://www.revouninstaller.com/)

1. Your Uninstaller (http://www.ursoftware.com/)
2. TuneUp Utilities 2007 (http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/)
