I've had my cat for about 5-6 years now and I've never neglected her or any such thing, I always feed her and give her attention when she needs it, but she still seems as if she doesn't like me... she seems to love crowding round my mum or sleeping in her bed, but she won't even come near my room (I carried her in before and as soon as I put her down she ran straight out... :l), she only ever seems to come to me when she's hungry and there's no one else around, any other time she clears off as soon as she sees me... I've never had this problem with any of my other cats, is there anything I can do to make her like me at all? It's getting a bit annoying...

Hi. First off...your cat does love you. She just perfers someone else at the moment...it's a game to her. So this is what I do when one of my four cats gets like yours.

Take a tiny plate of canned cat food, dry cat food, water and a bit of milk in your room. Sit it close to a window area and place a small folded blanket up she can sit on. Put the food next to the blanket area by the window.

She will soon be RUNNING TO YOUR ROOM & YOU.

They love the extra attention & you may have to stop putting food in your room to get her out. LOL

Have fun. Blessings, Patti

My cat has the same behavior as yours. He clings to one person and one person only. This makes him extremely loyal and loving towards that one person. I wish I could tell you a way to make her magically fall in love with being with you but forcing a cat to like someone else better besides their owner is like someone telling you that you have to start loving your neighbors mother better than yours. I know this may not be what you want to hear but all you can do is try to bond with her/him. Feeding it, like some people adviced for you to do, is not love. It's almost like the cat using you.
maybe you should consider your own personal loyal cat, that way you and your mother can both have your own.

Your cat is the reason there is the stereotype that cats are aloof. Some cats are! I don't really know if there's a way to "fix it." I'd just accept as part of your cat's personality.

Cats are cats, nobody can be forced to like another so it may be something you'll have to live with.

It does sound like you've given her attention and care. Keep doing it, she seems to be bonded to your Mother though.

my cats are fickle like that. I find if I ignore them they want me more (not like neglect, but I just don't give them extra attention.) Cats are like people, they want what they can't have.
