As a cult member, I can see where you'd be tolerant of other cult members.

Scientology claims that Xenu, an evil alien being, trapped the souls of people 80 billion years ago and sent them in to a volcano and then set off a nuclear bomb, which resulted in something called "Thetans" being released which then inhabit you and cause you to do things which are bad for you. They also claim that if you reach the top level of the church that you can literally manipulate matter, time, and space, and after you have spent about $350,000 to get there you can find out. If Tom Cruise is a top level Scientologist he should be able to stop me from smacking him in the head with a two by four because he is in control of the manipulation of matter. I wonder if he would be willing to test that theory. It IS a cult, and it often sends people after anyone that questions them harasses them, frequently SUES them, has been the cause of the deaths of some people, and is clearly corrupt. I don't think Mormonism makes a whole lot of sense either under closer scrutiny, although some of the rules do make SOME sense, like avoiding alcohol use.
btw: I forgot to mention that the universe is currently estimated to be less than 16 billion years old which makes the first claim either an obvious lie or erroneous, which puts the whole thing automatically in question. And are you wearing your magic underwear? Do you still think that blacks are black because God left them in the oven too long? That's in Mormonism, which is why some people say its a cult.

It is very easy to find lots of scary stories about what SOME Scientologists have done.
Simply do a web search to learn more.
Because Mormonism may have been unjustly called a cult doesn't mean all accused of being a cult are innocent victims.

Scientology... where to begin? You may not have seen South Park, but I strongly recommend seeing their episode on Scientology.
Further, I'm a former Mormon, and know that it's not a cult. I left because there were some things about the Church that I don't agree with, but I would never refer to the LDS Church as a cult.

And, like a mormon, you have no concept of "other beliefs" outside your own.
Scientology, like mormonism, has 'inner teachings' that are just as bizarre and implausible. For example, "Xenu (sometimes Xemu) is introduced as an alien ruler of the "Galactic Confederacy" who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth in spacecraft resembling Douglas DC-8 airliners, stacked them around volcanoes and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living. Scientologists believe the alien souls continue to do this today, causing a variety of physical ill-effects in modern-day humans. Hubbard called these clustered spirits "Body Thetans", and the advanced levels place considerable emphasis on isolating them and neutralizing their ill effects."
While that's way better than Kolob and Smith's astronomy, it's just balonium - just like the BoM.

They're foolish enough to believe media propaganda. I must say I thought that humans were more rational. They talk about isolated incidents like they could possibly represent an entire belief system (As if we could judge Catholicism by perverted priests!). I myself am not Scientologist however it's downright idiotic to accept everything you hear about something without doing your own research.
And then they start talking about aliens and xenu, as if Scientologists actually believe the mythology is true! I could also quite easily say that Christianity is a joke because every single Christian believes that one day some magical power is going to destroy the world and everyone who worships the sky fairy is going to live in the clouds while all the people who who don't believe in the sky fairy are going to suffer! (bear in mind I'm using it as an example, I know Christians aren't that idiotic)

Scientology scares me. I remember back about 30 years ago, when scientology first came into vogue, there was a questionaire they passed out to people, and there was about 1000 questions, all asking some very intimate and private questions about your life. It's supposed to be so that they could "cure" you of all your hang-ups and all. But then, not long ago, someone pointed out that, with all this knowledge about you, you can never leave their group or ever speak out against it, because they have all sorts of knowledge with which to blackmail you and ruin your reputation.
Scary, IMHO.

What do you know about Scientology ? Been a member ? Personally know a member ? Know specifically how Scientology works ?
Read some of the HORROR stories by ex-Scientologists on the Internet , and you`ll know EXACTLY " Why are so many people against Scientology!?!?"

Morman are certainly some of the most able, caring and helpful people I have come accross.
There are not actually many people that really do hate Scientology or Scientologist, but there are enough to spread rumors that incite others who are angry.
I get annoyed at all the fuss too. The difference is I know it's my fault that I get annoyed. If people could realise that their own action or inaction affect them more that what others do they would stop attacking everything.

I have two close friends who's lives were ruined by Scientology. One is still involved, but she has been completely cut off from her family and all of her friends, and has had her bank accounts drained. Another friend got out, but is (years later) STILL stalked and harassed by Scientology members. They've called his house, his work, they've even called his FAMILY. (His parents and sister have all gotten harassing calls.) They've called his wife's place of work. They've showed up in restaurants where he's eating and threatened him.
Believe me, it's a cult. They don't act like that when you first join, because they want to make you think they're all sweetness and light, and they want to appear to be as attractive as possible. Once you get up there, though, they won't let you go.
