My windows media player only plays the sound from my downloads and not the picture, people keep telling me to download codecs, but what are they, what do I do with them and how will they help me?

You can get some very useful info here:

To get your codecs you can go through your media player and find where to update them from. This may take you directly to the MS page. It's been a looong time since I've done it so they may have changed since coming out with Vista and MP 11.

You can read the link the first guy gave you if you really want to know what they are, but I can fix your problem very quickly. Go here:http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/ click the free download and then install it. After installed open up the files in Windows Media Player, and the picture should be there.
