Some cats never answer to their names. I have a cat who certainly knows her name -- she flicks her ears when she hears it -- but it is beneath her dignity to respond to it.
If you can persuade a cat to respond to its name -- actually come when called -- the motivator is usually food. Start by going up to your cat and saying his name. If he looks up or responds in any way, give him a treat. Gradually increase what is required to get the treat from opening his eyes to stretching out his neck to standing up to coming to you.
It may work, if the treats are delicious enough and you don't overdo things by doing it too often.

I have had cats in my life and in my home for nearly 50 years, and I have never known a cat who will come just because they are called, by name or otherwise. Sometimes they will come, but only because it pleases them to do so. The answers about can openers and rattling bags of food are right on - I have also found that shaking the Pounce (treat) can is a great way to get them to come, and really works well if you have cats who go outdoors. Good luck!

I have 3 cats (actually, 1 cat; 2 kittens). 2 of them come to me when I call their names...1 doesn't...yet. I just call them by their names when I'm petting them, holding them, looking at them, talking to them, feeding them, etc. My one kitten (3 months old) already runs over to me when I call her name.

Kittens learn their name. You just say it to them a lot when you talk to them, especially when you call them to feed them. But coming to you when you call them is a different story. Cats don't follow orders. they will come to you when they want to!

they associate certain things with sound.everytime you feed her, say her name.thats the best way.Just like when they hear a can opener or a bag rattle,it means food.make her used to it with other activities also...loving,playing...just whatever..instead of sayong "here kitty kitty"
say here whatever your name is
