Yes.....you need extra hands to hold on to the coffee and donuts when you have to take off in a hurry........ I agree.

I agree that it would be a great safety measure in many areas due to these incidents; however, in many areas there isn't enough funding to man cruisers with 2 personnel. I live in a county where they are actually trying this during the day with the city and county departments not in just a way for safety, but also to cut down on the cost of having to pay for fuel for extra vehicles being on the road.

For a majority of Departments that would be very costly. Staffing of departments is based on number of 'cars' available to respond to emergencies. To keep the same amount of cars with two persons each would effectively double the staff.

In some places, it just wouldn't be worth it (like rural areas) and half the time they don't have enough officers to put two of them in one car, because then there aren't multiple units to respond to multiple situations... In high crime areas and cities though, it is a really good idea to require them to have 2 in a car...

I would love to have all two-officer squads. Are you going to pay for that? There are single officer squads because most police departments are vastly underfunded and understaffed.

I have personal knowledge of both officers in a 2 man car that were killed by a suspect at the same time.

So, it could go either way.

And we as officers have to respond to acts of violence against us.... not be preemptive. So, if someone wants to kill you, you hope your reaction time is better than their initial aim.

Scary. But that's just another example of why an officer should NEVER attempt to take any one into custody by themselves.

Do you have the money to pay the salaries of the second officers? If so, go right ahead.

It really should be.
If they cut the motorcycle cops, then they'd have alot more people.

I actually saw a female officer riding solo the other day - that's not just a bad idea, it's plain stupid.
