Why won't HMRC help? Its a legal requirement to issue a P45 when somoene leaves and if your previous employer is failing in this, I don't undertsand why HMRC won't intervene.

ask if they dont give it just fill in form p46 and hand it to your new employer this will serve the same purpose but it will just take a little longer to sort your tax situation out.
seeing a lawyer wont make a blind bit of difference and will cost more than the tax you are paying, but he main difference is you will get your tax back that you have overpaid .thousands of people leave their jobs without a p45 for various reasons thats why they have form p46

They've stuck you on an emergency code which is a pain in the whatsit. Ask if they will not play send a written request by registered post and ordinary mail (they can not say they have not got your request, keep copies, give them 7 days then see you union or if not a lawyer

Have you tried asking? Or you can fill out a P46 for the current employer- and your current or new employer should know that and supply the form. No big deal.

Right -if you have left on legal terms it is not legal to withhold a P45
If they are refusing to do so get an employment lawyer pronto
