they did at first get along so we got rid of the other cage and put them together but now at night they always fight and it gets really annoying.

Ok first off the budgie will eventual kill or pluck the tiel. Yes Iknow that sounds strange with the tiel being so much bigger but that is the facts. THe budgie in general is a very active and curious bird. once it got over it's initial fear of the tiel it started to explore. The budgie will eventuall start to bite and chew on the tiels extermeties as in it's toes and beak. The tiel in general tends to be a more docile bird. Not so prone to chew and explore. You need to seperate them as fast as you can or your $20 bird will kill your $100 bird.

You need to separate them again. One of the birds is defending it's territory, and the other is defending it's life.

Separate them. Rarely do two different species live happily together.
