Evidently some people believe that if you do not buy the bible you are an atheist. How ignorant is that?
I think there is a God. I think the biblical monster is fiction. I am not an atheist.

Spugsy what the hell does arrogance have to do with monotheism?

Christianity is not the only religon that believes in one God!! It is arrogant to say that if you do not believe in the Christian god it makes you an atheist. It does not.

Believing in only the Christian God is a remnant of old world teachings that we continue today. The western thought has always been to separate this from that, us from them, right from wrong, etc. This separation is/was the beginning of arrogance and the ignorant unwillingness to objectively view/listen to other cultures and thought patterns. Ancient Rome gave up their original freedom of religion and gave ancient-empire power to the rising Christians, that is why the old ideas still hold back the next mental- evolutionary stage of mankind.

I don't see much arrogance in anyone's belief system, I do however see an over abundance of IGNORANCE in accepting the basic human flaws that have tainted a spiritual tradition and created a rule filled religion which closes the mind to other ideas.

There are many different cultures in the world that the TRUE creating force has put into this small planet, why would only one man at one point (rather late) in history be the only true way? If the biblical god is the true and only god, what is with the massive attitude adjustment between the Testaments?

Dispite the agreement long ago for the religious and scentific communities to be separate, the questionable field of quantum physics may be the link between the physical plane and the place of spiritual possibilities which trancends all religious philosophies.

Some of the answers posted thus far should jump onto a dictionary site before blindly filling in the blanks. This is my first day on this Yahoo feature, although I enjoy the mental stimulation it is obvious that only a few are capable of solid arguments with more than what they have been programmed to believe in. (For those of you unhappy with this statement- are you being arrogant or ignorant?)

Actually Islam, Christianity and Judaism all worship the God Of Abraham and the Buddhist do not worship a God as much as a philosophy..no one else has ever claimed to be God except Jesus Christ. No one else was raised from the dead with 500 witnesses ..see I believe we all know inside there is something bigger..what the Bible is is not saying others are looking at the wrong God.. it says that Jesus came to this World so that we may know what and who the Lord is ..and if they do not study the words and character of His son then they can not know the God they are looking to know. It will be a God of their understanding..which unfortunately we aren't that bright :)Not many Christian are followers of the God of Israel to be frank..that's why it is so hard to see him in their lives... Jesus was the Lord but he came to serve..He is the one true God and you don't have to believe me or someone like me.. .go talk to Him read His words..really devote a little of your life to finding out..Won't take as long as Harry Potter Book....so many are so educated about this and that yet the Bible which has shaped the world for 5000 years is not even looked at...weird...I just ask you to to look into it with an open heart and mind..what could you lose except your pride..which leaves you unteachable. Then tell me what you think..it is brilliant.:)

So where is your 'god'? Do you have the luxury of making him up yourself? If so, he isn't a god; he's a figment of your justification.

There are lots of things I don't like about the Bible. People going to hell. Sin in the world, and therefore hunger, pain, disease, child abuse, and on and on. But the reality is that WE are the monsters. WE kill, WE molest, WE abuse drugs, alcohol and each other. WE refuse to prevent hunger when half the world is gluttonous and selfish.

But just because I don't like the reality, there IS absolute truth. There IS God, and only one and we didn't make Him up; HE tells us who He is. He reveals Himself to those whose minds and hearts are open to Him, outside of the pages of the Bible, but always consistent with the teachings on those pages.

Atheists always want to say that our argument ("God said the Bible is the only Truth in the Bible, so therefore it's true") is circular; that we have no evidence other than something somebody made up and put to paper. You want to completely ignore any personal revelation, any experiences that we have, while in prayer, or just walking along in our lives, or what we see in the lives of other Christians. Do you REALLY believe that Christianity would have existed this long, and remained so strong, if it were NOT based on a LIVING God who acts in the lives of His children today?

Not a chance in hell. (sorry, God).

Many people don't know the definition of the word "atheist." If someone believes in a god other than the God presented in the Bible, they're an agnostic, by strict definition anyway.

However, since The One True God has provided only one source of Direct Revelation, that being the Holy Bible, in which He states that He is, in fact, the only True God, it's not arrogance at all to take Him at His word when He also backs up His claim with proofs.

it quite is obvious you do no longer quite have self belief you're God yet are basically making a mockery of the Lord Jesus Christ. What works have you ever performed to declare your deity? Jesus did the works of the daddy! have you ever been crucified and risen from the lifeless and shown your self alive to over 500 human beings? have you ever ascended into heaven to sit down down at God's suitable hand? If no longer, then take a seat and close UP! there is not any evaluation! Apostolic Believer in one God, JESUS!

I believe that there is only one God. I personally have come to understand him to be the Christian God. My husband practices a Native American religion. They also only believe in one God (the creator). I think that we pray to the same god. I think is is a rather harsh to refer to my God as a Biblical monster. I think that there are many different paths to come to know God. I would never judge how you choose to define and worship God. It would be nice if you could do the same.

btw - if you believe in a God than you are not an atheist :-)

You confuse arrogance with monotheism. While there are many arrogant monotheists, monotheism in itself is not an indicator that someone is arrogant. There are idiots in all religions, why bother to have such a knee-jerk reaction to one?

If you define arrogance as believing the truth, then yes, Christians are arrogant.

arrogant: 1. Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance. 2. Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one's superiority toward others

Christians believe that each and every person is just as important as every other so they have no "overbearing self-worth or self-importance" and are therefore not arrogant.

In Christ

God I am sure, does not think it is arrogant. I am sure, he does not share glory with fake "gods" that do not exist. All of those who do not follow him will DEFINITELY be elightened when Christ sets things right.

There are other 'gods', however there is only ONE TRUE God, Creator of everything.

The above statement must be true because of command number one....
'You shall have NO OTHER GODS before me'.
I'll let you figure out what/who the 'other gods' are.
