What is the best digital camera for around $200.00 for general picture taking, mostly faces.

I have had good experiences with the Sony digital cameras. There are always sales at stores that sell cameras so you should be able to find many decent digital cameras for your price range.

I picked up a beautiful camera off eBay for $225. It was the Canon \PowerShot S2 IS. This sucker has a 12x zoom on it, with a 2x digital zoom after that. That is the equivalent of a 432mm zoom lense (one of those long honkin' zoom lenses you'd typically see erecting out of somebody's 35mm camera). It is absolutely amazing!
You could do a search for the different models that people list in their answers, and then go to Yahoo Search and type in the models in the search field, and then add "reviews" or "complaints" or "comments" or "shot with" and you will get a lot of information about each model.
Shop wisely! Be happy with your purchase!

I like the casio exilim ex-z120.
At 7.2 megapixels, the small pocket sized camera is easy to use for beginners and has lots of features for advanced users.
SD memory cards have become relatively inexpensive on the market.
With 2 AA size batteries you don't have to deal with expensive, recharagable, proprietary battery packs, especially helpful when traveling away from power sources for recharging.
oh, and it takes great pictures.

I'm not a Canon's fan but PowerShot A630 and other A-series cameras are really good and costs less then $200.
