The catholic church needs all that money to pay the lawyers and reparations for all the harm priests have caused when they molested all those little boys!

Actually I think he imitates Jesus more than most of the people answering your question. You are confusing the pope with the assets of the Catholic Church. The art work was paid for during the Renaissance or donated. If you believed in a religion and you donated something dear to you to your religion and then found out that some idiots had issues with your donations because they were huge, it would tick you off considerably. In America you would be considered a pillar of society if you donated big bucks to some idiot group, but if you donated to a Church, you are considered a jerk.
Why not rip on the Crystal Cathedral and Dr. Positive who yells and kicks on airplanes, or the Palace of Gold and the Hari Krishna's in WV who murder their own?
Or, how about that religion that only supports the billionaire hollywood stars but wouldn't suffer the likes of average joes like you or me?
And as far as the pope being a pervert... it just shows you care to overlook the perverts in the non-Catholic Christian religions, the Jews, the boyscouts, the guy down the street from you.. have you looked on your family's computer lately to see what YOUR FAMILY is doing????

The Catholic church has 1.045 billion members [www.cwnews.com] and that size of a group requires substantial capital to run. The question above is more of a comment on the pope imitating Jesus rather than a gold issue. Jesus was a jew not a German Nazi-youth member. But what do I know? ;)

Off topic: Imitate Jesus? I don't know how wealthy Jesus was during His ministry but He did not use any funds or donations from other people during that time. It was mentioned in the bible before but I forgot which verse. And also the roman soldiers were fighting for His clothes , that should mean that Jesus wears nice/expensive clothes that He bought with His money which He earn during the time He was working as a builder.

Quite a bit of the "riches" that the RCC has in Rome came from a time when not only were people required to tithe but they were required to pay taxes to the church, and when the people were lied to by their priests believing that if they gave more money to the church their mom would get better or they would be absolved of some sin they felt was particularly bad.

The answer is in the question. If you know the Son of Man has no place to lay his head and that you cannot serve both God and money, then go with common sense and don't let men try and pursuade you. The Spirit will lead you into truth. Rest in His revelations and accept that there are many anti christs in the world.

I think maybe the gold is for all the lawsuits and criminal trials. I mean it must cost a whole lot to defend yourself from being deemed a pervert.
