I just bought a container of buttermilk for a cake recipe. I went to pour out the buttermilk and it has a few chunks in it (resembles cottage chese). Does anyone know if this is normal?

no butter milk is creamy like regular milk only a little thicker. It's probably bad, just take your receit and return it, you will get your money back for a new container. :)

Back in the day, buttermilk was the left over liquid that remained after butter was churned. It always had little pieces of butter floating in it. Even up until about 20 years ago, some commercial dairies made buttermilk with pieces of butter in it.Don't think anyone does that any more. If you bought a container of cultured buttermilk, with chunks, than it probably has gone bad.

Not at all - buttermilk is not cream - it a bad pack - do not drink it. Ask for a replacement if possible.
