There is no proof or evidence that one can get cancer from being depressed. Depression is a typically a chemical imbalance either brought on by age or by outside factors in one's life.

As for signs and symptoms it varies depending on the age, onset, and type of cancer one has. It can range from no signs or symptoms at all, to unexplained decreases in weight, night sweats, frequent urination, headaches, bruising, a lump or bump, change in size, shape, or color of mole, so on and so forth.

If you experience anything out of the ordinary, then the best thing to do is to seek medical attention. This will also alleviate any other potential thoughts that may add to any depression you might be experiencing as well.

Being depressed does not help. Look into this inthe meantime - 9 - Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? 33 The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. 34 I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. (If you find this useful, copy it and give it to a friend. Somebody got to Yahoo and they delete this as soon as they find it) At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since – more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. 35 I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.

There have been many people who have claimed that keeping a cheerful and optimistic attitude helps cancer sufferers to recover more often than those who sink into despair.

Cancer cells, like any disease cells, are attacked by the immune system, and depression can lower the immune responses, so I don't think that depression can cause cancer, but it may well decrease a person's chances of beating it.

Probably one would say that depression does not cause cancer. However, it certainly causes so many other problems, such as ulcers and headaches, it should be treated.
As to the signs of cancer, it all depends upon the type. Some cause no symptoms at all. Others cause excruciating pain. Some cause tiredness and lethargy.
Just see a doctor is the best advice.

No you can't. Cancer is caused by carcinogens, cancer-causing agents. Being depressed can wear on your immune system though. Signs of cancer are stuff like anemia, increased urination, sudden weight loss, lethargy, a mole that changes.

a person who is depressed tends to have immune problems, which in turn can activate the growth of cancer cells, over time if they are prone to cancer, yes. a depressed person may exhibit problems and pain similar to fibromyalgia or Lupus. for example.

not really.
however depression can lower your immunity to disease, and so theoretically long term depression can impact your health.
(but to say there is a direct cancer link would be unlikely)
