Both families are working together to make sure someone is with him. But the air line tickets can be expensive, this is new for all of us.

He's 6, flying from Ohio or Wisconsin to Hawii. His family and mine are willing to fly with him but does his ID help with his ticket, both tickets? Can we use it for anything else like hotels ect?

A military ID for dependants is used for medical care not for cheap flights and hotels. It is not a rewards card like a Visa or Master Card. Normally if you were married to his father he would not get an ID at all until he turns 10, but since you are not married or are no longer married he has a military ID card for dependants so he can go to a military medical treatment facility or to an approved civilian medical center for medical care. THAT'S IT. It is identification showing that his father is in the military and is responsible for his well being as far as medical goes and for identification to get him onto a military base. HIs father is his sponsor and you as his mother will need to get the proper forms showing that you are his mother and care taker. His father is not your sponsor and cannot be since you are not his dependant. You are only giving the authority to being him onto base IF you can show the proper documentation showing you have been given this authority by his father and by the DOD.

Not sure about the rest of your question. That is all the ID is for not anything else that you mentioned. Hope this explains things and how they work.

a military discount is off of the regular full fare no restrictions price. and those are thousands of dollars. In most cases, a child flying alone will not qualify, and any adults flying with them must have their own ID to get a discount.

an ID for a 6 year old is for one reason only: to Identify that the child is covered under the Tricare Medical Insurance, nothing more. it is only given to children who do not reside with the Military member full time, or if the child will be going on a vacation without their sponsor(such as visiting grandparents for the summer).

Your son's ID card is so he can receive his medical care not discounts. Airlines have different regulations for children flying, you'll have to research each one. As far as discounts for tickets your son's father can go to ITR (that's Army) and probably be able to get discounts on the tickets.

I'm not sure what exactly your question is.

I guess technically his dependent ID can help get groceries and medical care (for him).

If you moved, you should take care of the plane tickets. Unless you've already agreed to split them.

How old is your son?
