My dog was spayed on friday and is doing quite well. She is an outdoor dog and wants to be outside with the other dogs so badly ( I currently have 2 dogs of my own and 2 fosters ). I am going to call the vet tomorrow and ask when she can play safely but I wanted to get some of your opinions. I just dont want her to hurt herself playing too roughly. What do you think? I am still going to keep her indoors untill the vet says its ok for her to roughhouse, but she is driving me crazy groaning and whining to go out. I do take her out on leash to use the bathroom but she wants to wrestle with the others. How soon has your dogs been able to resume normal activity?

General rule is 7 days. Keep her quiet. I know it is hard but its worth it in the end.

2 days is too soon for the sutures.
The vet's office should have told you how soon she can play when you picked her up. Possibly you missed it in the excitement of getting her to bring her home.
Make sure your vet knows what a really active dog she is. He may wish you to control her somewhat so she doesn't overdo when she first is allowed out. My dogs roughhouse a lot, and I know that could make a difference. You don't want her going from zero to 100 instantly.
You may be able to give her some activities that will calm her in her impatience to get back to normal.
1) try a Kong toy
2) bring the other dogs inside to visit, one at a time for a little visit with each dog one-on-one today so you can control the dogs activity level, yet allow them to visit.
Those may help. It gives her something to do to be happy, yet, in a way where she can't overdo because you can step in.

My dog was outside helping plant the garden the next day. She wasn't her usual self, though. She moved pretty slowly. I would give a couple days to rest, and atleast a week before any real roughhousing.

Thats a good thing that she is feeling so good, but she has a lot of healing to do on the inside and could damage her internal stitches if she plays too rough. They don't know any better. Please keep her as quiet as possible for at least a week, then she should be OK to play.

Aaah poor puppy. I know it feels cruel when your dog is crying to go out to keep her in, but really it's for her own good. If she bursts the stiches she would be in real pain and might get an infection. keep her quiet now, for at least a week.

2-3 weeks after the operation it will be safe to let your dog play with other dogs just watch her very carfully

normally about a week. it is hard to know that she wants to play and you can't let her, but her safety is worth it!!!
