I don't really understand why so many consumers are so excited about blu ray movies. I understand that they hold more and that more movie companies are supporting. I have both, as I wanted to be able to watch whatever I wanted in HD. But I haven't been happy with my blu ray player yet.

It seems everytime I turn around I have to have a new firmware update because there is new software on the blu ray movies I want to watch. I'm talking super new technology like shock files, stuff my Windows 98 computer can handle.

Also I have a child living at my house and anyone that knows children knows that you have to keep your dvds out of their reach. Long story short, they got into my bluray and hd dvds both of which got scratched up pretty bad. I tried to resurface them both, the hd dvds turned out fine however the blu ray discs haven't worked since. I was told that you can't resurface blu ray discs by the guy at Best Buy because it takes the digital layer off?

So why go blu ray?

For Playstation 3 users like me, Blu-Ray is a must because it can hold more game data, therefore enabling bigger game worlds with more content and a awesome graphics. I really don't care about Blu-Ray movie DVD's. Why pay $10 more for a Blu-Ray movie for the same movie in DVD that costs less? For me, watching a movie in Blu-Ray really isn't that important, I'm all about the gaming aspect. I still purchase regular DVD's because my PS3 can upconvert them, but until I get an HDTV, I'll still purchase regular DVD's.

So basically, I say go Blu-Ray because it could be the future of DVD's and is already the future in gaming for Sony.

At this point, I don't think anyone should really choose either, unless they buy an XBOX or PS3.

My guess is that BluRay will win out, because it has more supporters, but the cheaper cost of HD-DVDs may win out in the end.

Don't forget, most people still don't have HDTV yet. Why else would comedy central, spike, and others not be available in HD in major markets?
