the best way to jump-start your metabolism is to exercise. Exercise will reduce body fat and increase lean muscle mass. By increasing lean muscle mass, metabolism will increase and aid in the weight-loss process. Muscle tissue uses more calories than fat tissue because it has a higher metabolic rate. Aerobic exercise, like walking, swimming or cycling, has the added bonus of speeding up your metabolism for 4 to 8 hours after you stop exercising. Additional calories will be burned off long after you stop exercising.
weight lifting, resistance or strength training, does not speed up your metabolism, but it does burn fat and increase your lean muscle mass which increases your resting metabolic rate. A combination of aerobic exercise and resistance training is best for optimal fat burning and metabolism boosting. Exercise in the morning and you will reap the benefits of a faster metabolism throughout the day, or exercise in short 10 or 15-minute bursts every couple of hours to keep your metabolism pumping. Exercise any time you can fit it into your day and you will burn that fat away. By exercising just a little more than usual you can speed up your metabolism and use up stored fat in the process.
eat a breakfast!!
breastfast is really the most important meal of the day!!
eat six small meals a day to keep your body's fuel supply consistent and keep your metabolism revved up. Avoid eating late at night because your metabolism naturally slows down in the afternoon and evening, so eat a hearty breakfast. Consistency is important because your body metabolism adapts to your current weight. If you have been dieting or skipping meals your body's metabolism slows down to compensate for the lack of nutrients. when lean people overeat their metabolism speeds up and when obese people diet their metabolism slows down. the key is a balance of exercise and diet.
eat fewer high-fat foods and less total calories. choosing healthy foods, such as lean protein and vegetables, can actually increase your metabolism as well. Increase dietary fiber and limit sugary foods, alcohol, caffeine and don't smoke. The best foods to increase your metabolism and help you lose weight are fish, dark green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, blueberries and other fruits, whole grains, and at least 8 glasses of water a day.
When your cells need energy they will break down carbohydrates first, then fat and finally protein. Your body converts carbohydrates into a form of sugar called glucose which is easily used as fuel by your body. Any excess carbohydrates you eat will be turned into fat for storage. Of course, any fat you eat will be stored as fat as well. Your body converts the fat you eat into body fat very efficiently. If you exercise and eat wisely, however, you will burn those fat stores and increase your metabolism.
also hot water in the morning with fresh lemon sqeezed in it, first thing every morning is GREAT for kicking your metabolic rate in the butt!!
drink the hot water and lemon, and if poss do a quick morning jog/exercise...
and then have breakfast after!
op for bran flakes & a banana.
or brown bread/toast, with boiled eggs...
with a glass of water & orange juice.
great way to kick start your day :D
best of luck!!

I hear that spicy foods can speed up the metabolism, but I'm not sure as to how much truth there is to that statement. The best way to speed up your metabolism is to eat smaller meals. Small meals (about six throughout the day), will speed up your metabolism and keep it active. Also, regular excercise should do the trick. Especially cardio.

Metabolism is essentially the speed at which our body's motor is running. The speed at which our body burns calories is called the metabolic rate. It's how fast your "motor" is running when you're still in a reclined position or sleeping. About 60-75% of energy is expended by the body at rest in such activities.
The metabolism is based on the number of calories we burn throughout the day. Our body constantly burns calories to keep us going whether we are eating, sleeping, cleaning etc. People with a lower percentage of body fat (i.e. muscular) have a higher metabolism than others that are less muscular because muscle uses more calories to maintain itself than fat. Some people have a slower metabolic rate and have a harder time staying slim. Younger persons have higher (faster) metabolism because of the increased activity of cells. A slow metabolism actually causes to store fat. The slower the metabolic rate, the greater the weight gains. How to build muscles to improve metabolism? What type of exercise is ideal that speed up metabolism so that you burn calories even at rest or sleep? There are simple exercises that speed up the metabolism.
Causes for Low Metabolism
* Fasting
* A low calorie diet
* Snacking throughout the day on high sugared foods (candy, colas, cakes, gum).
* Eating or drinking too much sugar containing foods.
* Lack of physical activity.
* Underactive thyroid.
Metabolism Boosters
There are some natural metabolism boosters (natural foods) that improves your metabolism. Do not take over the counter pills containing animal thyroid extract that claim to boost up metabolism. These products may have side effects as diarrhea, increased heart rate, excessive sweating, nervousness, tremors, bulging eyes, etc.
How to Improve (Speed up) Metabolism
*
Do not skip any meals
*
Exercise daily
*
Build your muscles
*
Avoid alcohol, sugar, and fastings
*
Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.
*
Eat foods with high nutrition values
WIth perseverance, you can speed up your metabolism like fire! When you eat, your metabolism works to burn it off. YOu have to feed the "fire."Don't give up!

Go for protein rather then sugar to keep energy levels going strong as an alternative to crashing. Edamame in pods would be the perfect snack since it takes a little while to eat and a one-cup portion offers 12 grams of health proteins.
