I had the same problem. If you get a dog from a pet store where they stay in cages all day it will be harder to train the dog. Because they dont know any better than to go right where they are. If you get a dog from a litter that are most likely outside. I have heard that its easier to train them. But try to take the puppy outside every hour. And when the dog goes to the bathroom outside. give him or her a treat. and they will eventually get the hang of it. Hope this is helpful.

First off eight weeks their bladder doesn't hold like a 2 year old dog. You have to put the effort into training her...outside after drinking water, eating, done playing, after sleeping. Don't expect a 8 week puppy to be instantly trained....it take time and patience!
PS You have a TWO YEAR OLD Yorkie that STILL uses a newspaper.....now that is truly SAD!

You can't expect an 8 week old puppy to be house trained. They are simply too young to understand that it's naughty. You must be patient, look up other answers on here in regards to house training. You must have trained your other dog at some point, just remember how long it took with her. Every dog learn at it's own pace.
In regards to the Yorkie you must clean up as soon as your puppy messes in the wrong area, with a proper cleaning agent designed for this purpose. If the other dog smells that the puppy has gone to toilet she will go in the same area as a sign of dominance so her smell masks the puppy's. You should reprimand the older dog, and remember to praise her when she does it in the right area.

You have months of training ahead of you! You can't get frustrated at an 8 week old baby--they know nothing and are just starting out in life! I'd recommend Dr. Dunbars puppy training book "After You Get Your Puppy". In it he teaches you everything you need to do to raise a happy, well socialized and well trained dog. Crate train both dogs!

Apply consistency, and over-the-top affection for a task well done. Ignore bad behavior unless someone is going to get hurt.
If you are speaking of toilet training, it takes only 2 weeks or less to toilet train a dog. It takes extreme watchfulness on your part for that period of time but it just aint that hard.

I know I have said this before but if you love your dog you should have been ready with the information you needed before you got him.
The hardest thing it seems is to train the people first to discover what they need to know. Toilet training is easy.

About 5 to 10 minutes after you feed and/or water your dogs, take them outside until the do their business. When they go, outside, be sure to praise them right away, so they know what the praise is for.
Be patient, even children make a mess.

Do you live in an apartment? Or do you have a yard? Do you want the dogs to do on newspapers? Or outside?

Train them BOTH to be in crates.. Newspaper is a bad idea.. Pee and poop belong outside.. If you allow them to go in the house on paper, then nothing is off limits.. Inside is in, outside is out.. If you allow pee in the house, then that's what you get..

Do you have a PetSmart or PetCo near you? They both offer an inexpensive puppy training course with individual help available as needed.
