its a Toshiba, 2GB RAM and 250GB harddrive. I'm going to use it for business purposes so it won't be clogged up with all my music and stuff like that. That's what my desktop is for

I had to return a computer to be fixed but the sticker was tore off so they couldn't fix it so I gotten a brandnew one in place of it for all the troubles I had. This one I am using now automatically came with Windows Vista.Honestly I don't see a major problem with it to me both Vista and XP run about the same.
The only way for you to tell for sure if your gonna like Vista or XP is rent a Laptop from rent a center for a month and give the Vista a try. I am sure they have Laptops with this new window's version in stock.
IF you already have XP on your home pc than get the Vista on the laptop at rent a center.
Only you can really tell if your gonna like Visa better than XP.

I don't like windows vista, and stuck with my laptop with xp.
But you are right about xp being obsolete soon. Soon you will not find any new laptop with XP. Yeah, Vista has problems, but microsoft will be forever working on updates, and maybe soon a service pack, and eventually get the major bugs out. If you buy XP that laptop may not be vista compatible and your stuck if you want to upgrade one day when vista is usable. Also if you buy Vista and don't like it- well don't even think about installing xp instead...it is a very annoying, if even possible process.
In short if I went to buy new laptop, I would buy one with Vista and MAKE SURE TO HAVE AT LEAST 1 GB (1024MB) OF RAM...even if you find a good deal laptop with 512, run and buy more RAM.

if your smart stay away from vista, the first sp1 isn't due till jan09 if that tells you any thing! acer and hp both sell laptop will XP and the are vista ready so at the time vista does become more stable you can upgrade. xp will be around for a good 5-6 yrs with support.
I worked on at least 2-3 laptops when vista first came out, one we had to reload, never did make it back to vista as it was so damaged.
Just buy a laptop with plenty of ram now & good size HD and stay with xp I think you will be happy in the long run.

yes i do have window vista
but at this time i recommend you dont need to have vista. actually they run really fast more than Xp, but some programs are not capable with vista which means you cant run some program such as: some music you can play and some wont. and the symptom freezing is alot on vista, when you browse the website and somehow they said the window not responding please closed the internet, it really sucked.
that depends on you , good luck until right now you still can buy a laptop for window xp from company.

We have Vista on ours. There are a few bugs but nothing real serious yet. Some of the new features are really cool.

yes, I have ultimate edition.
Either wait to buy your laptop, or get XP, Vista is just too buggy still.
Anyone tried to rip mp3's with vista yet? you can't. just that proprietary tinny windows media format that doesn't play on microsoft's plays fer sure bulloney format.
I have to rip on my XP box and play the music on vista
have you tried photoshop on vista? yeah. un-huh. works good eh? not.
all the buggy drivers and the crash dumps thrill me too.
vista is nothing but beta software at this point in time and will probably not be completely stable until the second service pack.
