i've known her for awhile and am interested in her, but i do not know if that feeling is being reciprocated. We planned to go to the movies, but should i bring a flower? or is it too much and should i go empty handed?

Do not take anything but your charm and usual carefree self. If you have known this girl awhile she should already be aware of the kind of person you at least superficially. This will be your time to show a more deeper side to your personality and she must like you on some level she did agree to go out with you. Take her somewhere nice before or after the movies.

If you guys going to see a movie go empty handed otherwise you look like you trying too hard but make sure you pay for whatever you guys doing that night it more manly gesture i think, for the 2nd date and then you can bring her flowers if you will pick her up at her place that way see can put on a vase before you go out and if she offer to pay you can accept it and say the next date is my treat .

She must be a little interested if she's going to the movies with you.
I prefer one single red rose over a dozen, take her a rose or find out her favorite flower and take that, but only if she knows it's a date.
Make sure you go somewhere afterwards so you can talk, cause you can't talk in the theatre.

No flower on the first date. If you do, you will look desperate, trying to hard. Instead, be a gentleman. If you are driving, open and close her door. If you guys go to diner after the movie pull and push her chair. She should be very appreciative of your gestures, needless to say that there are not very many gentleman's left.

Good luck on your date.

when I first took my wife out when we started dating I showed up with 2 carnantions (white and Pink) just as a sign of affection to break the ice. She loved it, it shows that your a bit sentimental and romantic not just there to "get in her pants".
Bring her flowers of some sort at least by her reaction you will know if the feeling is there!

Maybe take her a small bunch of flowers, i definately wouldn't go all "wedding bouquet" on her. A necklace or bracelet, if you really want. Bare in mind that it is only a first date, but a guy bought me a gift on our first date, i'd think he was really thoughtful tho.
Good Luck!

something small.. like a flower you just picked outside would be really nice.
personally I use to consider it necessary for a guy to bring a little present to show respect interrest but now I found a guy I really like and he proved to me that Theres A million ways to show you respect her and are interrested without material things.. the guy is broke. and he is a thief too,,,he stole my heart! jaja
the point is if it comes from the heart ANything is good!

No gift, that is very awkward.

Just feel out the first date, and then if it goes to a second date, remember something she mentioned she liked and surprise her with that (if she mentioned her fave restaurant, take her there, if she mentioned she loves Starbucks coffee, pick one up for her on the way, etc).

A single rose is nice and has no sugar. This lovely young lady could be a diabetic, candy may not be a good choice, but women of all kinds live a single rose. Good Luck
