Okay..let me give this a whirl. I am so confused on what to do. I own both the Sire and Dam. I have 2 beautiful Boxers that some how tangled up and Dam got pregnant. I tried very hard not to have this happen, due that I wasn't sure if I was going to let her have a litter or not. Why,because of what has happened. I always said if she had a litter,I know I would want to keep one. That would mean 3 boxers. I would have her fixed after. I do not want to breed more, just a person with great dogs all the way around that I love..and know they would have super dogs for people to love as much as I do..smile. My concern is my Zoey and Boss get along so well and I am afraid of the horror storys some people have had with having 3 dogs. So I guess my questions are ..Do dogs get along better when it's parents and pup? Will they still fight for the alfha or beta when they get older? Is it better to have 2 females or 2 males? I have a huge yard for them to run in. House is big enough? Help

Yes, I would have them spayed and nuetered. I know brother and sisters, parent and pup should NEVER mate. Also Zoey and Boss wrestle all the time it's hilariuos they have never gotten mad at each other...but Zoey does rule between them. My Zoey is 3 and Boss is 1 so she pretty much taught him the ropes....smile. Their personalitys and temperments are super. Never aggression only hugs and kisses.

I think they'd all be fine together. More a question of do you really want three dogs. If so, I say go for it :)

If you have the room in your heart and your home, then why not keep the pup? Yes, they still do the whole Alph dog thing, however that won't be for a while and it won't be as aggressive since the dad is already full grown. The pup already knows he's not the Alpha male. From personal experience it was best to have 2 females rather than 2 males. The females only wrestled a little whereas the males faught a lot. It all depends on the dogs.

Since Zoey is the alpha of the couple you ll have to respect that in order to avoid trouble. So :
1. Let a dog trainer perform a puppy test on the entire litter at the age of 7 weeks and pick yourself a neutral puppy. Picking a dominant one would surely lead to a contest between the pup and Zoey. Don't pick a shy one either.
2. While training the pup always support Zoey's leadership. Especially at the age of about 5 to 6 months when the pup enters his first puberty.
3. Remember that Zoey will become even more dominant once she got spaded.

Dogs do not have the same type of family relationships that we have. Although we tend to think that way - we're humans. We forget that are pets do not think the way we do.
If you are going to keep a pup - keep a female BUT have them both ( mom&daughter)Spayed. My experience is females at least at my house tend to get along better. But that may not be the case. Either way the choice is yours. I'll quess you keep one - it will be hard not to. Just remember not to let this happen again - there are too many dogs without a home and someone to love them. God Bless!

Who said, three was a crowd. I have 3 different breeds of dogs, a cat, and a parrot. I have 2 males and a female dog. All are fixed. They have had their run ins. But, they all pretty much get along fine now. Your the parent (pack leader) So its how you bring them up. Give them all the same amount of exercise , love and attention and you'll have a beautiful happy family. It dont matter they're all the same breed or not , or from the same litter....just get them fixed and its expensive for shots and heartworm ....but well worth the cost of the love they will give you and eachother.

Ok my first question is that if you keep a pup that you will spay the female for no mor litters to happen. what would you do with the male? why not neuter him as well? What about the pup? if you pick a female and the male is in tact then what is stopping them from mating? if you keep a male you have double the testosterone in the house and males will fight for alpha even though they are blood. Females will also fight for alpha.

Then my next question is if you chose not ot fix the two dogs you have do you have the finances to fix three dogs? feed three dogs? vet three dogs? etc. it isn't just about space and love it is also about the pocketbook and responsibilities.

Female dogs are generally more territorial and sensitive than males, and if they are all going to be neutered/spayed in the long run, I'd keep a male, especially since your female's the boss.

Males are more forgiving, the female will get along with the male pup, she will vie for her territory with another female, and may feel as though you are trying to replace her. The male adult will forgive, forget, and be his best buddy after all are neutered. The fact that both older dogs are his parents will certainly help them all to get along as three pets sharing your affection and attention.

It's a hard question to answer.. Alot depends on you and how you treat and raise your dogs.. I have mom and daughter.. Got mom and son.. They get along well, but we make sure that they get along.. We don't allow them to wrestle and play hard .. We crate them when we leave the house..

The question is.. Are you able, experienced in working and making sure that you are alpha and the one that all 3 dogs look up to for guidance and leadership.. Are you a respected leader that can keep them all getting along together? Will they all be spayed/neutered???

When we kept one of my dog's (F) litter also (F), no male on premises, we had no problems at all as to Mom being the alpha. Mom got along well with pup and they played a lot. I don't think the pup is going to get aggressive with mom, so I think Mom'll stay king of the hill no matter which sex pup you keep. Why don't you consult a vet?

keeping a pup is always a hard choice. i have and they always keep a alfa dog ..... you should be the alfa dog and i always recommend using crates when dogs are not attended.
they should be fine as long as you stay in control of their space, you are alfa . i have a house full 14 and they all get along even around food. even if i bring a new dog in to train for some one else I am alfa dog. my dogs will try me some times but calm assertive always works.

We kept a puppy from my dog's first and only litter, and they get along great. If you think you can handle taking care of three dogs, I don't see why you shouldn't keep one of the puppies.
