It is not both. It is a title. If it was a name then the bible would have added it in his name YHWH. It is not there. People are so uninformed when it comes to this. If I were still a Christian I would be ashamed to know fellow believers were so unlearned. Even the bible says there are many Gods meaning a God you know like Zeus, Apollo and all the other Gods. Even the pagans know that god is a title and when we want to address a particular God we will call him by name, same with the Goddess.

Its mainly a title but can be a little vague. Christianity usually refers to the supreme being as God which is a title and a proper noun(hence the capital G). This is not saying that God's name is God. It could mean that his name is not known, God doesn't have a name, or it is a sign of respect to be refered to by title. The word god can be a full title as in God-King or can it can be noun as in Greek gods.

Title.

In the OT, when Moses asks God, "hat shall I tell them you are called?" God replies with "I Am."

Your name is the first gift that is given to you by your parents. Since God Is, Was and ever shall Be, - no one is above Him to give Him a name.
That is why it is also so significant when the Angel tells Joseph that His son is to be named Jesus (He who brings mercy)
It was right of the father to bestow a name (almost always a family name) upon his child. It reiterated that Joseph was Christ's guardian - not father - while on earth. It also would have been a shock to "the neighbors" that Mary and Joseph's son didn't have a family name.

a name? a title? God is much greater than a name esp. a title. He is who He is. He's the almighty one, magnificent and great! Our Father, Lord who is greater than anything. Think about how big the earth is and not only that, but the universe. Think about the galaxies and beyond! God is much greater then his creation. Now that's the God that we should fear. Much more than any name or title.

Very generic title. The truth comes in the NAME.

The Father has a name, but due to the Hebrews belief in keeping it sacred (don't take the Lord's name in vain), they substitute title-names when talking of Him. Many modern Bible translations follow this tradition.
