i used to be the same way, i was so afraid to say anything to anyone. i missed out on so many opportunites from being that way. the only thing that helped me was facing my fear i had to force myself to talk to people. now its so much easier for me, i take the attention off of me and ask them about themselves, it takes time just remember to breath

I would seek help. It sounds like you may have anxiety. I used to be like that, because of what happened growing up. Therapy helped me over come it, and comfortable in social situations. It can really take a toll on someone, being cooped up that long. I'm not a doctor though, but I think therapy can help if you have insurance. Otherwise it just gets worse if it goes untreated. Good luck!!

You suffer from an extreme social phobia. The only way to overcome it is to get help with a good therapist. You'll have to force yourself to see someone, even getting to the therapist will be difficult but I don't see any other way. Once you undergo therapy to find out why you've become like this, you'll slowly make progress. She or he will start you out slowly and will go on social outings with you while helping you every step of the way. It shouldn't take that long before you'll be out comfortably on your own. Good luck.

Take baby steps. Go outside and just walk around the block. You'll probably see other people but don't have to interact with them. Just put yourself in those types of situations... where you can be near other people but they are not right in your space like at a grocery store or a restaurant. Gradually you'll build up your confidence among other people again. It just takes time.

The only way to overcome your social fear is to face it. Go out there like you used to with the mindset knowing that you used to be able to do it, and nothing has really changed. The only way to resolve problems is to face them, not run from them.
