Actually he created him because he needed a gardener.
Genesis 2:15

Every Creation Angels, Animals, All Living and Even Non Living Beings (as nothing is lifeless as per the atomic theory)Worships God and Glorifies Him.
Even Though Man too Worships God or Had to worship God, Adam was created so as to appointed as a vicegerant to God.
Let me provide Holy Quranic Verses in this regard.
64:1 Whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare the Praises and Glory of Allah. to Him belongs dominion, and to Him belongs praise: and He has power over all things.
2:30. Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said: "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know not."

In a sense yes. The angels & other heavenly beings have to worship God. So God decided to create mankind, and give us free wills, so we could choose to worship Him or not, instead of having to. God loves our worship & praise of Him.

The book says we are made in his image. So we are like him. Do you need someone to worship you? I don't think so. You are complete the way you are. Love completes us as we are. We are to love ourselves first. And from that we love God. We need nothing more. God is love. What could God be lacking?

It seems that is all the Christian God needs from humans, what else can we offer him, he's got everything. the angels watchers and cherubs are obviously superior to humans, and they could do any work around the house.

No.
He already had the angels, watchers and cherubs. Man is the bottom of the list of his creations.
