Then don't.

Bree:
I am 59 years old with 22 years in the US military. In my age group and circle of friends there only two kinds of people. The kind that never got a tattoo and the kind that wish they hadn't.
Now that is by no means all the people on the planet and I tend to associate with a bit more conservative crowd than most. I don't have one, my brother doesn't, my dad died tattoo free, and my son has one. It is years old now and I haven't heard him say anything about it for years. However, he has never gotten a second so I am assuming he probably isn't delighted that he did it the first time. That doesn't mean necessarily that he regrets it, only that he might not do it again if given the opportunity.
I do have one suggestion for you. If you decide to do it may I recommend that you consider the smallest outfit you will ever wear and get a tattoo that even that skimpy bikini will cover.
I applaud you. At the very least you are thinking about it. With the consideration you are giving the issue I'm sure you will make the right decision for YOU...

I really wanted a tattoo and I til this day, I don't regret it. The thing is is to get something that is meaningful to you and in an area that you won't regret later.
I have a tattoo on the inside of my left heal. I like it because it is not that obvious and not tacky looking when I'm in evening wear.
I think that as a female, and this is only my opinion, small tattoos on the breast, upper back neck and lower back and the feet are nice areas for tattoos. You can still look feminine and elegant.
If you have any doubt, then you probably don't really want one.

I haven't gotten one yet, I'm pretty glad that I haven't. I wanted one about two years ago, of a dragon. I'm really glad I didn't get it because my taste constantly changes. I'm not sure if that's the way you are as well but every other year my taste in style changes a little. If you're seriously considering getting a tattoo, make sure it's of something that you truly love. Maybe of something or someone who has always been an inspiration to you or something that symbolizes an important achievement of yours. If you find something you think you'd like to get a tattoo of, get an image or two of it and keep it for a few months. If you still like it a few months down the road, you can more seriously consider getting a tattoo of it. Tattoos are permanent, so you really should be positive that it's of something you'd want with you, and on you your entire life.

I feel, by the way the question was asked, you don't really want a tattoo. Maybe you haven't really thought it through yet. When you have, you would know if you wanted it or not. Big decision. I have tattoos, and never regretted them. Take your time and think bout it. And do what makes you happy!

If you're smart about it and don't get a huge one in an obvious place where everybody can see it, I don't think you'll regret it. :) I don't see how a small tattoo in a discreet spot that you can cover up when the situation calls for it would be a problem ten years from now.
Also don't get anybody's name tattooed to you or something, because you never know what will happen with them in the future.

Don't do it!!!
I almost made the mistake of getting one when I was 18 and really drunk. Thank heaven that I didn't have enough money on me.
Anyway, the tattoo is much too one way. No turning back unless you want to spend thousands on laser surgery.
My son has about 8 of 'em and most of them are symbollic to him, but aren't there other ways to express yourself.
Get a peircing or a semi-permanent tattoo, get it out of your system and be pleased with yourself later in life for listening to a little good advice.

I don't regret any of my tattoos, but I didn't get them just to get a tattoo. It took me years to design each of them, and each of them holds special meanings and memories for me. It's the people who go in and randomly pick something off of the wall that will regret them in the coming years. Don't get one to just get a tattoo - find something really meaningful to you, even if it takes you years.

If you have even the slightest, slightest doubt, which obviously you do, then you absolutely should not get a tattoo.
I have zero regret about mine. But I was also 38 when I started getting them. Not sure what would have happened if I had gotten ones at a younger age.
It's too big of a decision to take lightly.

Both my parents have a tattoo each my mom was 36 when she got hers and my dad was 40 when he got his. Neither of them regret theirs because they have meanings. My dad has the world war one flying ace and my mom has 3 roses on her ankle symbolizing me and my siblings. When I turn 18 i am sure I will be getting tattoos and piercings. And I dom't think I will regret them because they will bring back good memories.
