I recommend trying L'Oreal Couleur Experte if you want to do your own hair. It is pretty simple and turns out nicely. I just did my sister-in-law's hair with one yesterday, as a matter of fact. It is two steps. The first step is an all over hair color. In the second step, you put highlights exactly where you want them. Frame your face with them.. do an all over highlight effect. It is your choice. Better yet, have someone that you trust do it for you. It will be easier for them to see the back of your hair, and the end result may be better. Just be sure to read ALL directions! To get the effect that you want, I suggest trying 5.0 cool caramel glaze, 6.1 cool french eclair, or 6.3 warm brioche, depending on what shade your natural haircolor is. Try looking at this website to see if you can find something to suit you.

Well I'm sure you'll do what you want, but I can tell you right now, you will not get the results you want from aaaaany kit. Understand in order for those kits to be legal they cannot be strong. So how light your hair can get depends on the developer, and the the developers in those kits are 20-30 volume maaax. Which means not only would that be impossible for you to get platinum or extreme blonde...but your hair will probably pull (turn) an orangish color. Box colors cannot tone your hair. If you are that concerned with the money, go to a cosmetology school. The least experienced student will give you far better results, and under supervision.

I don't reccomend doing home lightening kits on brown hair, because they often turn out too blonde for your hair, and almost skunky, (and not the sexy scene skunky, skunky as in old-lady-working-at-grocery-store's hair skunky.) If you want highlights on brown hair, get them done professionally. Also, if it has bleach in it and you follow even just one step wrong, it can make the hair you use it on fall out. (Eek!) If you don't want to spend all of the money getting your hair done professionally, try just getting very light honey brown highlights to compliment your skin tone.
