When you have to ask yourself this question. If you are questioning stupidity, then you are probably at that point. Kindness has a reward of peace and happiness. It makes you feel good because you were kind. If you are feeling doubt or confusion then it was not heart felt kindness.

I think that you've already answered your own question. Kindness should come from the heart and be given freely without expecting anything in return. You obviously feel that somebody is taking advantage of your kindness or you wouldn't be asking this question. This would qualify at the point of too much.

Kindness is based upon intention. If you are extending yourself to people for reasons other than the reward of helping, then it might be wise to reevaluate your methods.

Depending upon the situation, many people often go out of their way to be kind in hopes that they will win some kind of validation such as love, affection, friendship or anything that they feel their lives are lacking. But really, true kindness and generosity comes from the heart with no expectation of a return. It is only when we live with expectations that we become disappointed and disillusioned by the people in our lives whom we merely wanted to "help."

When you allow people to walk over you and when you try to be kind to get people to like you. There's a very line between kindness and stupidity. Be nice to people, but try and realize when someone is just walking over you.

When the person receiving the kindness takes it for granted, takes advantage of your kindness, or becomes dependent on it instead of learning to be self-sufficient.

When you are kind for the wrong reasons, when your kindness puts you out. When kindness is used to make you feel better about yourself. When you are kind to those who fail to see it, or value it or respect the effort it takes to be kind!

Allowing people to use you or take advantage of you, is when kindness crosses the line. You can be nice to people, and help them when in need, but you don't have to be a doormat...in fact, people will tend to like you more if you're not.

When you give in to many times and get hurt by it, that is stupidity. And if that is you in picture, your a good looking guy, again don't give in so much....you will see a big change.

I agree with musicbaby's answer. Try to nice to people when they need it, and never let anybody take advantage of you and stand up for yourself if they cross the line.
