I am confused on this one. I ma major bottled water drinker. Some mooron in the county has decided because we are in what they call a "Sever Drought Emergency" that he has proposed and passed a county ordniance to limit the purchase on any bottled water used for human consumption with the exception of flouride added water (for babies).
Ok, so we can't water our lawns, wash our cars, take less baths, yada yada yada. We get it. But now you are telling us we can't purchase bottled water in mass quanuties? Umm, what?? I found this out when I went to Wal-Mart and attempted (yes attempted) to purchase 4 cases of bottled water. They told me there was a limit to two cases a week for county residents and out of county residents were not allowed to purchase water at all.
So after i took the two cases out of my cart, they had to call a 24 hour county hotline (yes our wonderful tax dollars at work) to verify my water purchase and to document it.

CONT'D....
I never heard of such a thing !!! How can a government body lobby to limit the use or water consumption by purchasing? Bottled water not only comes from all over the US and Canada but also all over the world. Supposely they limit is because there is such a strain on water that any water brought into the county must be accounted for.
FYI:
They also passed a law regarding businesses giving tap water to non-employees. It reads "One glass of water, not to exceed 64 ounces, with meal only, if requested". And also read "These water restrictions also pertain to any public or private water fountains located at a place or business or government buildings should be immediately closed until further notice".
All I can say is, this guy is not getting re-elected. Everyone is downright pissed off !!! Your opinion?

FYI on Home Tap Water Restriction:
There is no restriction on home tap water drinking or distribution but..... They have limited our usage to 2000 gallons a month. Any usage over that and we are fined $150 bucks. So drink wisely.
Also, you can obviously leave the county and buy bottle water with no restriction, which is what a lot of people are doing. But the new ordinance also stipulates that "Any resident of the county that purchases bottled water through mail-order or from a retailer or distributor outside of this jurisdiction must declare this purchase upon returning to the county with said products. Items are to be declared at local county tax collector office with reciept. A 4% tax will be imposed on the all bottled water products. Declarations over 25 days old will be fined $25. $500 fine for undeclared products."
For the record, no one i know of yet has been caught buying bottled water in another county but I know all the sheriffs are required to check at stops.

Ive been stockpiling water for the past five years an now I see it wasn't such a crazy idea after all. Maybe all of you will now see that your precious government (even to the county level) don't give a rat's a*s about you. What kind of ridiculous nonsense is this that they could put restrictions on the purchase of WATER!? WATER for G-D's sake, makes up approximately 70% of our composition! Without an adequate amount of water a person will die, plain and simple. Like you said it's imported from here and there and everywhere. You btter beeliev all those fat cats in the county seat have enough water to fill their swimming pools with andd then some. How Americans can be so complacient, while poloticians just do as they please is beyond my realm of understanding.

I would assume that they don't want any one person hogging all the water. If people are allowed to walk in and buy all the water on the shelf, eventually none of the stores will have any. Then people will start fighting over it. It's called rationing. Also, bottled water does more harm to the environment than good. Never mind the fact that most bottled water is just tap water with less restrictions anyways, and no - bottled water, more often than not, is NOT cleaner than tap.
OK, I can only assume that A - This government official is trying to stop the damage that bottled water is doing to our environment, B - That you are facts wrong or C - you are lying just to be dramatic and get a rise out of people. Unless of course you live in some communist country?????????????????????

This sounds like the need for a community petition. Bottled water is the cleanest compared to what they have coming out of the faucets. I'm glad this is not an issue here. But come to think of it, the water with fluoride for babies is actually pretty good. I found this out when I was given a free gallon of it. That was the first time my daughter drank a gallon of water in one day and she is 11 and loved it! So it could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how u take it.

"Some moron" passed a county ordinance? Sounds like a Bunch of your neighbors have dehydration insanity. 1) Look in the Mother Earth News archives for how to build and use a rainwater collection system. 2) Get up a petition against flouride added water. (That is Poison!) 3) Tell us what county you're in and maybe we can help.

The reason the county wants to limit bottled water usage is because the bottled water is not from a spring or underground river or anything that exotic......it is just tap water that is bottled and the company makes a fortune from people like you that buy their drink of water in a bottle. Look at the label. Does it say purified? Does it say filtered? If so, you are just buying tap water anyway.

Where do you live? Well I too have been told in the past that I could only have a certain amount of bottled water...we should all get used to this...the days of just having as much of everything that we want is over...

the water restrictions usually don't apply to drinking water from your tap at home (just lawn watering, etc.), so just fill up a few bottles with tap water and put them in the fridge. it's the exact same thing as what you're paying money for in the store anyway.
did you hear that aquafina and desani have to put the label "PTW" on their bottles of water now? that stands for "purified tap water," so they basically have to admit that what their selling you in the store is the exact same thing as what comes out of your tap at home.

Wow--where do you live??
That is absurd, because the water isn't bottled there, probably. Do they think you'll buy 12 cases of expensive bottled water to wash your CAR with?
Ludicrous. I think it's time to vote in some different county officials!

That is ridiculous!! Where are you? We have had flooding in the area, think heavens not my town, and while there are restrictions on tap water, bottled water isn't a problem. That politician is an idiot.
